We will be returning to Belize this week with Dr. James Suen and Dr. Alejandra Garcia de Mitchell. Good comes from good, and our involvement in Ukraine led us to get to know Dr. Suen, who is an amazing surgeon and humanitarian. Dr. Garcia de Mitchell, LEAP's Medical Director, will connect with our partners and will discuss Northern Regional Hospital's new pediatric ward, which was made possible through the generosity of LEAP's donors.

Our Zimbabwe team is home! What a blessing to LEAP to have such dedicated volunteers. Seeing the smiles of these children and their families reminds us how impactful our missions are. Big thanks to our friends at Celebration Health, Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, and Shumiro Sarah Crystal Magandi Trust for their kindness and hospitality!

Our Zimbabwe mission team has had a busy schedule this week with 60 children receiving life-changing cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries.

We’re excited to share that Melissa Howell has joined LEAP’s Board of Directors! Melissa is a pediatric nurse practitioner who has traveled with LEAP on several missions to Zimbabwe, Haiti, Belize, and India over the last 14 years. In her volunteer work with LEAP, she stays focused on keeping the care we provide grounded with cultural sensitivity and respect while providing excellent care to the families we serve
Melissa grew up in the north Dallas area. She has been a pediatric nurse practitioner for 3 decades and is currently Manager for Advanced Practice at Children’s Health System of Texas.
Melissa and her husband Dan have seven (now adult) children. Most are still local. As you might imagine, the number of grandchildren is on a steady incline! She is an active member in their church where she serves in the special needs class every week.
