History Made!

Governor Abigail Spanberger signed a bipartisan package of maternal‑health bills, known as the Momnibus, to strengthen care and support for mothers across Virginia.

The legislation aims to:
• Expand care for high‑risk pregnancies
• Increase access to maternal mental‑health screenings
• Improve tracking and reporting of unexpected, life‑threatening complications during pregnancy

“No mother should have to fear dying during or after childbirth… Today, we are taking decisive action to make sure more women across Virginia can get the care they need at all stages of pregnancy,” said Governor Spanberger.

🤰5.6% of moms reported feeling discriminated against for their race or ethnicity when receiving prenatal care, according to a 2022 PRAMS survey that collected data from 2019 to 2022.
All moms deserve to feel heard, respected and valued-- especially when their health and the health of their child is on the line.

This -- and every month-- VNPC encourages you to reflect on how you can raise awareness and help foster a culture where all moms receive the best prenatal care possible.
