Henrico resident Marie Phillips dealt with neck and back pain for years. Last summer, the pain, numbness and lack of mobility became too much to manage.

Marie was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, cervical radiculopathy (a pinched nerve in the neck) and spinal cord compression.

Dr. William Kemp at Neurosurgical Associates PC , part of Chippenham & Johnston-Willis Hospitals, recommended a 3-level cervical disc replacement, which removes damaged discs in the neck and replaces them with artificial discs, relieving pressure on the nerves and spinal cord. For younger, active patients, disc replacement may help maintain range of motion.

Marie became the first patient in Central Virginia to undergo a 3-level cervical disc replacement using the prodisc system. After the surgery, Marie felt an immediate difference.

🦴 Did you know we have the ability to order x-rays in our office? X-rays help us visualize cervical/thoracic/lumbar fractures, hardware placement and evaluate for instability issues. By offering in office x-rays, we are able to provide more efficient and expedited care. We offer this service at our Midlothian and West End office.
