We are proud to share an exciting milestone for our practice and patients. Dr. William Kemp has successfully performed central Virginia’s first 3-level cervical disc replacement, marking an important advancement in the treatment options we offer for cervical spine conditions.

This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to advanced spine care, improved patient outcomes, and staying at the forefront of surgical technology.

“The minute I woke up from surgery, the pain and the weird things I’d been living with were gone.”

Henrico resident Marie Phillips dealt with neck and back pain for years. Last summer, the pain, numbness and lack of mobility became too much to manage.

Marie was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, cervical radiculopathy (a pinched nerve in the neck) and spinal cord compression.

Dr. William Kemp at Neurosurgical Associates PC , part of Chippenham & Johnston-Willis Hospitals, recommended a 3-level cervical disc replacement, which removes damaged discs in the neck and replaces them with artificial discs, relieving pressure on the nerves and spinal cord. For younger, active patients, disc replacement may help maintain range of motion.

Marie became the first patient in Central Virginia to undergo a 3-level cervical disc replacement using the prodisc system. After the surgery, Marie felt an immediate difference.
