The River Falls Baby Cafe, a member of the larger Baby Cafe network, provides a safe, educational and comfortable environment to support local breastfeeding mothers. It is open every Tuesday from the hours of 10 am to 12 noon. We meet in the lower level of the United Methodist Church in River Falls. It is a informal, relaxed, comfortable environment. Baby Cafe is a opportunity for women to get their breastfeeding questions and concerns addressed. At every Baby Cafe session there are trained lactation staff available to moms. Refreshments are served and there is a scale if you wish to weigh your baby. When women feel supported in their decision to breastfeed it helps them to reach their personal breastfeeding goal. Breastfeeding is not always easy, but it is so important. The first few weeks of breastfeeding can be overwhelming and challenging as parents are adjusting to the new demands of caring for a newborn. The lack of sleep and the normal fluctuations in hormones that new mothers are faced with often make the breastfeeding mother question her ability to provide for her new baby. It is often difficult for new moms to trust that their body is programed to provide all the nutrition that her newborn baby requires. Moms often question if they are doing things right and worry that their baby is not getting all the milk it needs. Visiting Baby Cafe can help a new mom get through this adjustment period and help strengthens her commitment to breastfeeding. Mothers gain a great amount of support and confidence from being around other mothers that either have experienced or are experiencing in their breastfeeding journey what they are also feeling and going through. No two women's breastfeeding experiences are the same. When women share their journey and stories with other women everyone gains and learns from it. The feedback we have gotten from the moms that have visited Baby Cafe has been overwhelmingly positive. This is a community service that is available to every women in the surrounding area. This is not just for moms that live in River Falls and that have delivered at the River Falls Hospital. No matter where you delivered or receive your health care this is a service for you. When you come to Baby Cafe if you need more assistance than the staff is able to provide to you during these hours they can help you make arrangements for further breastfeeding support in your area. Moms are welcome to bring siblings with them however we do not have child care services, moms are responsible for supervising the children they bring with them at all times. Bringing toys or favorite books for your older child to play with may make it easier for them to be entertained during your time at Baby Cafe. We hope to see you on Tuesday.
