The Citizen Corps was established following the tragic events of September 11, 2001. It was created to help coordinate volunteer activities that will make the River Forest community safer, stronger and better prepared to respond to any emergency situation. The Corps is an umbrella group that will coordinate a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and a Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). The Village established the Citizen Corps to:
- Assist first responders in any emergency situation
- Supplement public safety as needed
- Support local groups and organizations hosting public events
- Help educate the community on matters affecting safety and emergency preparedness

The Citizen Corps is seeking residents to assist with the following:

Participating residents will receive basic training and are only expected to provide an hour or two of assistance per month.

Expect thunderstorms tonight, with a chance of damaging winds and hail.

5:07 PM: We continue to monitor showers and and a few thunderstorms currently developing across northwestern Illinois. Expect shower and thunderstorm coverage to expand this evening as this activity presses eastward. A few of these storms could become strong to marginally severe with mainly a threat for strong and gusty winds.

On Tuesday, breezy northwest winds will drive colder temperatures into the region. Temperatures will probably struggle into the mid-60s by mid-afternoon, with areas near the lake staying in the 50s with onshore flow through the day. Temperatures will fall back into the 30s Tuesday night. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible late Thursday afternoon and evening.

Greetings! We here at the River Forest Citizen Corps hope that everyone had a wonderful winter and holiday season. With spring upon us, we’re getting ready for another year of community engagement and support.

Last year, the RFCC took part in over a dozen community events and exercises. Our hard work and expertise ensured the safety of hundreds of community members and saved our collective governments thousands of taxpayer dollars. We also provided first aid services to dozens of people and helped dispose of nearly 30 pounds of expired prescriptions drugs. It was a great year!

Looking forward to this season, the RFCC is already scheduled to support six community events, with a few more in the works. Volunteers are needed for all of them! Unfortunately, a few key members have left the area over the past year, so we’ll be counting on everyone still with us to carry us through the 2019 season. We’re also planning a recruitment push this spring, so if you know of anyone who is looking for ways to contribute toward their community, please tell them to visit www.rfcitizencorps.org for more information or reach out to us at rfcitizencorps@gmail.com.

Please see our list of scheduled events below and let us know which ones you’d like to volunteer for. Thank you for everything!

Saturday May 4th:

- Forest Park 3k.

Monday May 27th:

Saturday June 22nd:

While not quite as humid as other hot stretches this summer, highs in the mid 90s today & Sunday with sunshine can cause heat-related impacts. Stay hydrated & take frequent breaks. Also remember the temperature in a closed car can become deadly quickly.
