We are thrilled to announce the official ribbon cutting to unveil the Bill and Ruth Ann Harnisch Neurosciences Center! This beautiful 1,545 square-foot center represents a major advancement in neurological care for our community. When it opens to receive patients, the new center will bring world-class expertise and advanced treatments closer to home for Eastern Suffolk County residents. We will be the first and only hospital in the region capable of performing cerebral mechanical thrombectomy. This lifesaving procedure can restore blood flow to the brain during an ischemic stroke.

This is more than an expansion. It’s a promise to our community that extraordinary, compassionate neurological care is right here when you need it most. With the signing of two new cranial neurosurgeons, our patients will no longer need to travel far for the highest level of care. Thank you to the Harnisch family and everyone who helped make this vision a reality! ❤️

Throughout 2026, we're proudly celebrating 75 extraordinary years of compassionate care, healing, and serving our community. From our founding in 1951 to today, we've grown alongside you, always putting our patients first.

Now, we're preparing to take another life-saving leap forward! The Bill and Ruth Ann Harnisch Neurosciences Center will open its doors in April. As the first and only thrombectomy-capable stroke center in Eastern Suffolk County, we are honored to offer our patients this highly advanced, life-saving treatment.

A mechanical thrombectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that removes blood clots from the brain during severe strokes. It dramatically improves outcomes, reduces the risk of disability, and saves lives when every second matters.

Thanks to our extraordinary community, we’ve provided 75 years of healthcare excellence...and we're just getting started!

As February draws to a close, we are remembering where we began and how far we’ve come in caring for the hearts of Eastern Suffolk County. American Heart Health Month is a crucial time when we educate our community, provide life-saving care, and remind everyone that heart health is a year-round priority. Our founders recognized that local hearts matter, and we’ve grown that spark of passion for wellness into the award-winning medical center we are today.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States. That’s one of the many reasons we are deeply committed to delivering extraordinary heart care for our patients. This began with the opening of our hospital in 1951 and has continued with the opening of the Kanas Regional Heart Center in 2020. Today, we’re caring for over 6,300 heart patients annually.

To our patients and community: Keep prioritizing your heart. Eat well, stay active, manage stress, know your numbers, and don't skip those check-ups. We're here for you 365 days a year. Our amazing cardiologists, nurses, techs, and support staff are ready to help. You're the heartbeat of our hospital!

As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Peconic Bay Medical Center this month, we’re sharing stories of hope and healing that speak to the power of our community’s generosity.

One such story belongs to Dillon Cummings—loving husband, avid basketball player and grateful PBMC patient. After a routine pick-up game with his brother, Dillon, who was only 33 at the time, collapsed. He was rushed to PBMC with no pulse, and no time to spare.

Dillon was diagnosed with a 100% blockage in his “widow maker artery”—one of the heart’s main blood suppliers. They got right to work inserting a stent and clearing the clot.

Today, Dillon is forever grateful to Dr. Persits and the entire PBMC community for giving him a second chance that day. In fact, Dr. Persits even held a place of honor on Dillon’s wedding day.

Help us ensure the next 75 years of innovative care that saves the hearts and lives of neighbors like Dillon. Make a gift to Peconic Bay Medical Center today!
