Today we’re proudly wearing RED for National Wear Red Day, part of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement. For 75 years, caring for our extraordinary community has meant shining a light on women's heart health. Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of women. By working together to raise awareness, we can change that.

Our incredible team is decked out in red to remind everyone to visit their doctor, listen to their body, and take their health seriously. Every heart matters!

We were honored to celebrate our 75th anniversary surrounded by the people who mean the most to our story: relatives of our founders, distinguished guests, and inspiring speakers who helped us reflect on how far we’ve come. Our staff came together to make this milestone especially memorable, including a time capsule, a touching musical performance, and a custom dessert. The entire day was a powerful reminder that our legacy is built on compassion, community, and a commitment to excellence.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the past, present, and bright future of care in our community. Here’s to the next 75 years of healing, innovation, and extraordinary care!

75 years ago, a farmer, an attorney and a reverend rallied their neighbors around a seemingly impossible vision: to build a hospital that Riverhead could call its own.

Against all odds, the community came together in just two months to raise a remarkable $425,000, equivalent to $7.65 million today! On February 3, 1951, the hospital we know today as Peconic Bay Medical Center opened its doors.

Over time, it saw tremendous growth and countless investments in medical innovation. The powerful community spirit that built PBMC 75 years ago still thrives today. Your unwavering generosity ensures extraordinary care on the East End for generations to come. Celebrate this incredible milestone by making a gift for our 75th anniversary!

Thanks to the vision of the Riverhead Hospital Association, formed by Henry R. Talmage, farmer, Reginald C. Smith, attorney, and Rev. Charles Mclean, we opened our doors on February 3rd, 1951. Recognizing an incredible need, the greater Riverhead community had come together to raise $425,000 to build a hospital. For the first time, they had the care they needed, close to home.

For 75 years, we’ve been providing extraordinary care and growing to meet our community’s needs. Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts first launched by our Auxiliary team in 1953, we’ve experienced a level of support we never could have imagined, allowing us to bring the best in technology, facilities, and talent to Eastern Suffolk County. What began as a 58-bed community hospital is now a world-class facility and part of New York's most awarded health system.

Thank you for trusting us throughout the years to deliver your care and to care for those in your life who matter most.

Every second counted. Our team saved Baby Nicolai.

Born with his cord wrapped around his neck, PBMC specialists immediately provided life-saving care: chest compressions, oxygen, and constant monitoring. Nicolai was stable but then had to be transferred to a distant NICU. The new Emilie Roy Corey Center for Women and Infants (opening 2027) changes that! Like baby Nicolai - 35-40% of our deliveries need specialized care. With a Level 2 NICU at PBMC, we can keep families united and continue to provide expert care where it's needed most.
