In Appalachian folklore, a falling broom is a common omen indicating that company—often unexpected—will soon arrive. It is also considered a sign of bad luck, bad fortune, or a warning to be cautious, sometimes signaling unwanted visitors or impending misfortune.

Key Appalachian Broom Superstitions:

Company Arriving: A broom falling across a doorway is a traditional sign of a visitor.

Unwanted Visitors: Placing a broom upside down behind a door is used to get rid of, or prevent, unwelcome guests.

Bad Luck/Misfortune: If a broom falls for no reason, it is believed to bring bad luck.

Moving House: Never bring an old broom into a new home, as it brings bad luck with it; instead, break and burn it.

Love and Marriage: If a woman sweeps over her own feet, or allows someone else to, she may never marry (or it will bring bad luck).

Broken Handle: Breaking a broom handle is thought to cause a broken heart.

A few of you know that I have your “special” people in my freezer still. And there they will stay 🥶

🧊 Put It On Ice

This is for when something or someone just won’t leave you alone.
Energy keeps popping back up, circling you, getting under your skin.

You’re not trying to fight it.
You’re just done with it.

So you freeze it out.

What you need

Nothing fancy.

Piece of paper
Pen
Something to put it in (jar, cup, even a zip bag)
Water

If you’ve got it, you can add a little salt or a splash of vinegar but it’s not make or break.

What you do

Write it down.

Their name… or whatever it is that’s bothering you.
Doesn’t have to be neat. Just get it on the paper.

Fold it away from you a few times.
Like you’re pushing it out of your space.

Drop it in the container.
Pour water over it.

Take a second. Hold it in your hand.

And just say, plain and simple:

“You don’t get to touch me anymore.
You stop here.” Or whatever your trying to put an end to.

That’s enough.

Then you freeze it

Stick it in the freezer and leave it alone.

Don’t keep checking it. Don’t keep thinking about it.

That’s kind of the point you’re cutting the cord of attention.

Later on

If things calm down and you feel like it’s done,
take it out, let it thaw, and throw it away.

Like you’re clearing the last of it out of your life.

That’s it.

Simple. Quiet. It works because you mean it not because you dressed it up.

Nicole Kidman has a new vocation in mind: She wants to be a death doula.

The actor said she got the idea after experiencing her mother's death in September 2024. Though it seemed 'a little weird' at first, Kidman learned first-hand how important it is to have a third party there to support a dying person and their family.

Now, she hopes to get her certification and provide solace, comfort and support to individuals as they walk through the dying process. 🙏

I thought rest was laziness.
So I pushed myself.

But horses don’t live like that.

They work…
then they breathe.

They run…
then they stand quietly.

No guilt.
No shame.

My horse taught me:
Rest is not weakness.

Rest is how you stay whole.
