Music helps moods a lot. I even have multiple play lists in spotify for days when my mood needs a little boost. I start with neutral sounding tunes and build. Try it! 🎶🎼🎶

The last few weeks I have been tired and have been running out of fuel before my day is done. Irritation and the “should” statements have started to multiply. It’s time for me to stop, reflect and reconnect with the parts of me that I have been ignoring. FYI it’s not a bad idea for you to also check in with yourself. You are 💯 percent worth it!

Some questions I get asked weekly. And it is possible to find a PERFECT match 🥰

Would I benefit from therapy? Yes! Therapy can be beneficial for anyone, regardless of the severity of their issues.

What type of mental health professional do I need? It depends. Different professionals treat different things. But here is a general list. (Counselor/ therapist, social worker, psychologist, psychiatrist)

What counseling format is best for me? First identify what you are looking for but generally people start with individual therapy, but there is group, family and couples.

What are my needs and goals? Decide what your primary goals are and research a therapist that has experience or training in that specialty.

How important is the client/therapist relationship? Extremely!!! Research has shown that the client/therapist relationship is the primary factor in achieving successful therapy outcomes.

Identifying unhealthy relational patterns in your relationships can sometimes lead to the end of a relationship. Especially in cases of manipulation or abuse. Its ok to choose a safe and healthier way to live. 💕

Let’s talk about communicating with our teens. FYI it takes 2!
* Listen more, talk less.
* Relax…Avoid angry or impatient body language.
* Have gratitude that your teenager has a different world view. ... you can learn from them.
* Avoid sarcasm, criticism and yelling.
* Don’t assume, ask!

Hey! I had an experience recently that prompted me to start researching more into the connection between spirituality/religion and its impact on your mental health. I am looking for what experiences created positive perceptions versus negative ones? I explained above 👆🏻. Feel free to comment here or send me a private message, thanks 🤩

When I started to become a therapist, I immediately said I would NEVER work with men. Fast forward and I have developed a deeper understanding and empathy for working with the male population. Men often grow up not having an awareness or education about emotions. In fact they’re encouraged not to, and are told to man up and don’t be a wuss. So asking them what they are feeling can be intimidating for them and seen as a weakness. Instead make direct observations on their behavior. You can say I noticed that you are tired or irritated. Is school or work hard right now? Can I help? Ask twice, three times.. etc. Then normalize it! Share your experiences of hard times with stress, anxiety or depression. If that doesn’t work, do a physical activity together like walking. I call it the walk and talk method. 🚶🚶‍♀️ 🗣️

Parenthood. The latest definition according to me in emojis: 🤨😅😂🥰🥹😡🤬😊🥰🧐🤨. If someone tells you parenting is easy, They are LYING 🤥. My current stage in life is cheering on 2 adult children and trying to nurture & empower a 14 year old teenager. Everyday is something new. I trust that I will figure it out because there is one thing I try to do and I learned in from my sweet momma. In the words of Urie Bronfenbrenner “Every child needs at least one adult who is irrationally crazy about him or her.” All of our children need that, young or old. Be that person 💕

Bills, responsibilities, errands, work, church, kids and dinner are just a few things that are on my mind every week. This causes me lots of anxiety and stress. One trick that helps is the simple saying “Be where your feet are”. It keeps my mind from spinning in a million directions and helps me focus on the here and now. Try it!

Our community experienced a devastating tragedy today. My heart breaks for the family and everyone who knew and loved this young man. At this time the important thing is to provide as much support and resources for this family as possible. Like many of you, I will be praying for them and looking for ways to serve them. Please check in with your kids. You don’t have to have all the answers you just have to be willing to listen and get the right support. Here is some helpful information from the CDC. We can all be better informed about what to look for and how to be watch guards for our children, family and friends.
