The provider you choose fundamentally shapes your birth experience—yet many
spend more time researching strollers than interviewing potential birth attendants!
These questions help you identify not just a provider’s credentials but their philosophy and
approach to care, which impact day-to-day interactions and major decisions.
The goal isn’t finding a provider who never recommends interventions—it’s finding one whose
approach to intervention aligns with evidence-based practice and respects your role in
decision-making.
Remember: You’re hiring them, not the other way around. ☝🏼It’s appropriate and necessary to
ensure they’re the right fit for YOUR needs.

The dismissal of birth plans often comes from providers who’ve seen women disappointed when birth doesn’t follow their exact vision. But this misunderstands the purpose of birth preparation.
Effective birth planning isn’t about controlling an uncontrollable process—it’s about understanding your options, clarifying your preferences, and creating a shared language with your support team.
It’s preparing for a range of possibilities rather than a single outcome. The alternative—making significant decisions about your body and baby while in active labor—is far less likely to result in informed choices.

Midwives aren’t anti-intervention—we’re pro APPROPRIATE intervention.
The goal of midwifery care isn’t “natural birth at all costs” but rather supporting physiological birth when possible while recognizing when medical assistance becomes necessary.
The key question for ANY intervention isn’t whether it’s available, but whether it’s indicated for YOUR specific situation—weighing potential benefits against potential risks.
This nuanced approach is what evidence-based care is all about: the right level of intervention at the right time for the right reason.

We are so excited to announce the opening of Genesis Midwifery’s first brick and mortar birth center opening in Roanoke June 2025!!

We are calling it a “resort” because it’s the only place in Roanoke where all professional services related to pregnancy, birth and postpartum will all be under one roof! We will have house the following professional services:

-Webster certified chiropractor for prenatal and postpartum adjustments
-Licensed prenatal massage therapist
-Lactation consultant for breastfeeding support
-Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist
-The same Certified Nurse Midwife all the way through including being on call for your birth
-Ultrasound services
-Only 3 minutes from Carillion Roanoke Hospital when a transfer is needed
-The only birthing facility in Roanoke to offer nitrous oxide for coping in labor
-Waterbirth option in our luxurious birth pool

BIG news!!! Genesis Midwifery is excited to welcome Magen Reigel, CNM to our team!🎉

Hi everyone! I have many passions in my life, but none are stronger than my passion to provide women and families with support and empowerment during their pregnancy and birth.  Labor brings out the incredible strength and courage women have in the most beautiful way.  My goal is to provide care and guidance to ensure all my clients have a healthy pregnancy and the birth they envision, safely in their home. 

I have dreamt about becoming a midwife since the age of 6 with the birth of my younger brother.  The anticipation, the excitement, and then he arrived!  It was everything I wanted to experience on a daily basis in my future career. I’m now overjoyed to say I turned that dream into a reality. ❤️Magen

Magen offers home birth services with all in-home prenatal care for women who live within 80 minutes of Waynesboro, VA. She also offers in-home prenatal, postpartum, and newborn care for women who desire a hospital birth!
