Hey Herby friends! I know it's been awhile since I've posted. I wanted to let you know that I'm still here! 👩‍🌾

I've been attending classes for Community Herbalist program at Artemisia Academy, as well as acting as their Apothecary Manager. It's been keeping me plenty busy. I'm learning all kinds of new things and look forward to eventually moving over to a more personal based consultation program so I can best serve my herbal clients. That's still some ways away. 🌿

In the meantime, I wanted to let you know I'm still making some of your herbal favorites, which can be found on the Forest Floor Herbals website. I'm not cooking up any new seasonal products right now, but the classics like the Anti-Anxiety , Menstruation Support, and Sleep Aid tinctures are still in stock, as well as Flower Power Face and body oil and calendula salve. After a lot of thought, I've had to make some tough decisions about the Forest Floor Herbals shop. I'm hoping what comes next will pave the way for a new business model and better things in the future.

I absolutely love making herbal remedies, but there is one downside to having a small business that sells physical products. You have to sell a certain amount to keep it sustainable.

Since the pandemic started, I’ve tried to keep prices down so that everyone who needed access to herbal medicine could get it. I will be honest with you. So far, this year, the shop hasn’t done so great. I had to pay to renew the website at the beginning of the year, and I haven’t even sold enough to cover that at this point, let alone all the herbs and containers I purchased. It’s a scary and stressful place to be. I’m always looking for ways to reinvest in my herbal practice, including going to herb school, but it’s not possible to do this right now due to stressed finances.

Unfortunately that means I’m not able make any new products until I sell the ones that I have, which are the same high-quality herbal remedies I’ve offered all along. In an attempt to free up some of my storage space and recover losses, I’m going to be running a sale in the Forest Floor Herbals store until the end of the year. Use code GOODBYE for 20% off. Depending on how things go, I may need to shut down the shop, switching to a custom order/by consultation only system only.

HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE! To celebrate, I'm dropping some new items in the shop today, including a Stings, Cuts, Bites & Scrapes Salve. This balm is a summer outdoor essential! It's suitable to rub over large areas or spot treat stings, bites, splinters, and wounds.. The plantain draws out venom, dirt, infection, and even splinters, and all of the herbs soothe irritated skin.

And this is my most delicious batch yet, made with fresh California black elderberries!

It’s elder season! I have access to tons and tons of fresh elderberries, and that means one thing: it’s syrup time!

Elderberry syrup is a delicious daily immunity booster, and it also tastes amazing on ice cream and oatmeal, among other things.

The base for this salve, calendula oil, was started a few months ago. Harnessing the warmth of the sun, the precious medicine from the flowers was extracted over a period of several weeks. It is then blended with local beeswax, a few drops of vitamin E oil, and topped off with a sprinkle of dried calendula petals. Perfect to throw in your bag and keep on hand to soothe dry, cracked hands and minor cuts and scrapes. It's also great for sprains or overworked muscles, treating pain and inflammation.
