Eating Evolution is a practice designed to change the way you see food. In the world of nutrition and dietetics, clients are constantly bombarded with quick fixes with precise instructions to have the “perfect body” or “perfect health.” I’m here to tell you that this idea of a universal “perfect” is unattainable, but I can help you find something that’s perfect for you. I work with clients to move

towards health at their own pace – not just get fit fast. Eating Evolution is about breaking down barriers and finding what works. Contact me to find out more, or visit our website at http://eatingevolution.net.

Here’s your reminder that nothing you see on the internet is real - even from real people you know personally.

So many of my clients are constantly comparing themselves to others - especially on social media. We have to remember that social media (and media in general) presents such a narrow beauty standard that becomes even more limited when it’s this easy to manipulate the images we present to the world.

Remember that social media in no way, shape, or form reflects real life. It’s a performance of what we’ve been told we should want - not that which makes a life enjoyable or worth living.

Wonderful advice from Isabel Foxen Duke and Imma Eat That! Sometimes we can plant a seed, other times the best way to spend our energy is to make sure that we are okay and we know our own truths. People won’t be able to hear any messages until they are ready - no matter how true.

I’m on Isabel Foxen Duke’s email list and today she sent out a post about how to handle dieting and body manipulation talk this holiday season. The above was one of the the options and I thought the last four lines were gold👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼 Additionally, before trying to have a conversation about why you don’t “exercise off” your food think, “is this person reachable and teachable?” And then allocate your energy from there. (That’s a tip mentioned in a continuing ED that I thought was 👌🏼.)

WEIGHT. STIGMA. HARMS. EVERYONE.

Yes - even those of us who live in thin bodies. How many of us can honestly say we aren’t afraid of getting fat?

“Internalized weight stigma creates the coping mechanisms that lead to disordered eating.” - Hilary Kinavey

If we weren’t all so terrified of fatness, would we feel the need to diet? Restrict calories? Exercise to exhaustion? Get rid of calories through purging? Would these things bring us comfort or a sense of achievement? If we didn’t believe these would change our body are they still behaviors we would pursue?

It is not our fault that we live with these biases - our culture ingrains negative beliefs about fatness in us from a young age. It IS our responsibility to challenge them - as compassionate individuals and especially as eating disorder providers. We cannot heal eating disorders or negative body image with the same kind of thinking that created it.

What would you do if you knew you would be accepted no matter your body size?
