Sometimes a volunteer at Story of Hope simply walks into a room with a smile, asks “How are you feeling today?”, and makes someone feel less alone.

A day in the life of a volunteer might look like:

✨ Bringing a resident a fresh cup of ice water
✨ Helping them sit up comfortably in bed
✨ Turning on their favorite TV show
✨ Handing them their medications prepared by staff
✨ Welcoming family visitors with kindness and warmth
✨ Sitting and talking for a few quiet moments that mean everything

You do NOT need to be a nurse.
You do NOT need medical experience.
You just need compassion.

Our volunteers help create peace, dignity, comfort, and human connection during some of life’s most important moments. The little things become the big things.

Many people think hospice volunteering is difficult or overwhelming — but often it’s simply about being present, helping someone feel cared for, and reminding families they are not alone.

If you’ve ever wanted to give back to your community in a meaningful way, this is your sign. ❤️

Join the volunteer family at Story of Hope and help us bring comfort, kindness, and hope to local families when they need it most.

“A Day in the Life” of a Volunteer

You arrive at Story of Hope Comfort Care Home expecting to give your time. But somehow, you always leave with something more.
Maybe it’s sitting with a resident while they tell stories about their first job, their children, or the adventures they had decades ago.
Maybe it’s sharing coffee with a family member who just needs someone to talk to for a few minutes.

Maybe it’s hearing laughter come from a room that had been quiet all morning. Maybe it’s helping someone feel seen, valued, and remembered. Hospice volunteering isn’t about having all the answers or doing something extraordinary every moment of the day.

It’s about kindness.
Presence.
Connection.
Community.
It’s about using your blessings to bless someone else.

Our volunteers help create a home filled with compassion, dignity, comfort, and humanity — and in doing so, they help make our entire community a better place. And the beautiful part is this:
Almost every volunteer will tell you they receive just as much as they give.

If you’ve ever wanted to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life, we would love to talk with you about volunteering at Story of Hope Comfort Care Home.

❤️ Sometimes simply being there changes everything.

One of the things we love most about the Rochester and Finger Lakes community is how local businesses show up to support one another — and support causes that truly matter.

We’re incredibly grateful to some of our local businesses for supporting Story of Hope Comfort Care Home and helping us continue our mission of providing comfort, dignity, and compassion to residents and families.

At our upcoming Casino Night fundraiser, guests will have the opportunity to participate in our Wine Pull featuring some fantastic wines from Finger Lakes wineries and varieties from around the world. Wineries, distilleries and liquor stores generously donated some amazing selections – some of them are award winning varieties!

Every ticket, every donation, and every participating business helps us continue creating a home-like environment where residents and families can experience comfort, connection, and peace during life’s most difficult moments.

When you support businesses that support Story of Hope, you become part of that mission too.

We hope you’ll join us for an unforgettable evening of fun, community, and giving back: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/casino-night-69

✨ We need 3 new volunteers by June 15th. ✨

That’s it. Just 3 people willing to make a difference.
Three people willing to sit with someone who needs company.
Three people willing to listen to stories, share a laugh, hold a hand, or simply be present.
Three people willing to help bring comfort and connection to residents and families during some of life’s most important moments.

People often think hospice volunteering will be sad — but so much of it is filled with warmth, gratitude, laughter, stories, and meaningful human connection.

So here’s our challenge to our community:
Can YOU help us find our 3 by June 15th?
✔️ Tag someone who would be an amazing volunteer
✔️ Ask us questions about volunteering
✔️ Or become one of the 3 yourself
⏳ Countdown to June 15 is ON.
Who’s going to help us cross the finish line?

❤️ Message us to learn more about volunteering at Story of Hope Comfort Care Home.

Celebrating Nurses Week and the extraordinary individuals who make compassionate care possible every single day.

We are deeply grateful for all of our nurses — your dedication, strength, and heart are the foundation of everything we do.

Today, we also give special recognition to three remarkable leaders whose commitment goes far beyond expectation:

Donna Soles, RN, our Executive Director, who works around the clock to ensure our residents receive exceptional care and support.

Arlene Nanry, RN, Founder of Story of Hope and a valued member of our Board of Directors, whose vision and compassion continue to inspire our mission.

Sam Savary, DBA, RN, our Board President, whose leadership, guidance, and unwavering dedication help shape the future of our organization.

Thank you for your service, your heart, and your relentless commitment to those we serve. You are the true heroes of our community.
