🧠 What inspired you to pursue a career in ABA and become a BCBA?
During my short time as a teacher, I had the opportunity to work with several children with autism. I quickly fell in love with how these amazing kiddos view the world and the unique ways they learn. That experience sparked my passion for supporting their growth and development and ultimately led me to pursue a career in ABA and become a BCBA.

🌟 What’s your favorite part of mentoring and supporting Behavior Technicians?
My favorite part is celebrating the successes they experience with their clients. I love empowering Behavior Technicians and helping them realize how vital they are in their clients’ skill development and learning. Their dedication and hard work truly make a lasting impact.

🤝 How do you approach building meaningful connections with clients and families?
I focus on building trust and open communication from the start. I strive to meet families where they are, listen to their goals and concerns, and ensure they feel supported throughout the process. Collaborating with families helps us create meaningful goals that truly improve the client’s daily life.

📚 Advice for someone new to ABA:
Be patient with yourself and stay curious. Every client is different and will teach you something new. Celebrate the small wins, ask questions, and remember that the relationships you build with your clients are just as important as the programs you run.

💙 What do you love most about being part of the TruNorth team?
I love being part of a team that truly cares about both the clients and the staff. It’s inspiring to work alongside people who are passionate about what they do and who are always willing to collaborate, support one another, and grow together.

⛳ Fun fact:
One fun fact about me is that I played golf in college, and in my free time I enjoy collecting unique items like skeleton keys and coins.

✨ BCBA SPOTLIGHT: Meet Laura! ✨
We’re so excited to highlight one of our incredible BCBAs 💙

🧠 What inspired you to pursue a career in ABA and become a BCBA?
I did an internship as part of my ABA class in undergrad back in 2001 and was hooked. My first job out of college was a behavior therapist position doing in home ABA and I never looked back. Just started my 24th year!

👩‍🏫 What’s your favorite part of mentoring and supporting Behavior Technicians?
I love the teaching part of supervision. Being a BCBA is not only my career but I am also very passionate about the field. Watching the RBT’s take what they have learned and not only apply it but also be competent in talking about ABA is probably my favorite part.

🤝 How do you approach building meaningful connections with clients and families?
I always try to meet people where they are at, clients and families. ABA is not about telling people what to do but more of providing tools for your tool box to help make life a little bit easier when the going gets tough. If you don’t have a relationship first, you are going to have a hard time being successful.

💡 What’s a piece of advice you’d share with someone new to the field of ABA?
Get out of your lane. There are many ways to slice an apple. Be open to ideas and concepts that others might have. You are going to learn a lot about ABA. ABA is a science and there are several modalities in which it can be applied. Work with your teams, not against them.

💙 What do you love most about being part of the TruNorth team?
The TruNorth team was a blessing to walk into. We have the same values when it comes to programming and intervention. Additionally, everyone is so nice and flexible. Very team orientated.

I used to be a long distance triathlete before my kiddos. I have raced in over 20 half ironmans and qualified for the world championships in South Africa after winning my age group at an ironman race in Monterrey Mexico.

What’s a small moment that’s made a big impact on you at TruNorth? 💙
Having such supportive and Passionate staff to work alongside has made such a massive difference in my experience. Tru North clearly cares about their clients and the work that they do, and that care can be felt in all areas of the job.

What’s one strategy or activity you love using during sessions? 😄✨
I find humor to be the best tool. A happy engaged child is also a happy learning child.

How do you like to unwind or recharge after a day of helping others? 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦💕
I am also a mom with four kids myself, so downtime is not something I see a lot of! However, I do love spending time with my family!

If you could describe TruNorth’s culture in three words, what would they be? 🌱
