Newborn sleep is a tough season to get through. Does it help to hear what’s normal and what’s not?

Waking every 1–3 hours in the early weeks is biologically normal, even though it can feel exhausting and overwhelming.

If you’re a first-time mom needing reassurance, education, or emotional support during this phase, that’s exactly what I help with. I use my background in nursing to look at the whole picture. Together we can make a plan that’s specific to your baby and unique situation.

I’d be honored to be apart of your village. DM or comment POSTPARTUM and I’ll send you a special coupon code as a thank you for trusting me with your care! 🥰🤍🫶🏻

Babies wake themselves up because their nervous system is still maturing — not because anything is wrong.
Frustrating that they don’t come out more ready-to-go but at least we know it’s normal? This is me trying to be positive 😅

Gentle sleep support focuses on:
• rhythm, not rigid schedules
• emotional safety
• developmentally-appropriate expectations

Sleep can improve without forcing independence too early.

As a registered nurse, I assess the whole picture because it’s rarely ever just about sleep. No two babies are the same, so I believe you and your baby deserve a personalized plan that will get you to where you want to be in a way that honors your values.

Tell me about your story in the comments or DM me! I’d love to be here for you and see what could help! 🤍

Hello Rochester Families! My name is Sarah, and I’m a registered nurse who specializes in pregnancy, postpartum, and infant care including lactation and baby sleep.

I recently opened my own independent practice to provide the care and support families deserve, but the current medical system can’t deliver. I’m passionate about supporting mothers and families by providing evidence-based guidance in a gentle and compassionate way. I will meet you where you’re at, and guide you through any struggles you may be facing so that you feel more present, confident, and prepared — not just living in survival mode.

Whether your little one is struggling to take a nap longer than 30 minutes or breastfeeding isn’t going how you would like it to, I would be honored to be there for you.

I offer free 15-minute support calls so I can hear your story and we can decide what would be the most helpful.

And for those families who are interested in working with me in these early days of my practice, I would love to offer a very special discount as a thank you for allowing me to serve you!

The power of skin to skin is amazing… it regulates baby’s temperature, heart rate, stress hormones, and more. It helps establish a deep bond and trust.

For as long as your baby has existed, it has been encompassed by you. Imagine going from being held every second of your existence to being in a big, cold world expected to regulate all on your own.

This is a skill that has to be developed that happens very gradually over time. The very first step is safety and security, which they feel most deeply when you’re holding them. Their nervous system and hormones need to grow and learn how to regulate, which takes months.

There’s a lot going on in that little body and I promise that holding your newborn isnt spoiling them — it’s actually setting them up for success.

As a registered nurse and sleep consultant, I’ve noticed that frequent night waking is one of the most misunderstood parts of infant sleep.

Babies wake at night to feed, regulate their breathing and temperature, seek comfort, and protect their developing brains.

This isn’t a sleep problem.
It’s a biological feature.

But knowing this doesn’t make broken sleep easier to live with.

If you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or starting to doubt yourself—even while knowing this is “normal”—you deserve support.

This is exactly the kind of family I work with.

I support parents who want rest without sleep training, without leaving their baby to cry, and without being told to ignore their instincts.

👉 DM me “sleep” if frequent night wakes are wearing you down and you want gentle, science-based support that actually fits your family.

It seems logical:
If my baby is more tired, they’ll sleep better.

But biologically, the opposite is often true.

When babies stay awake beyond their comfort window, their bodies release cortisol and adrenaline to keep them alert.

These stress hormones make it harder to settle, harder to stay asleep, and more likely they’ll wake frequently.

Sleep isn’t something babies power through.

It’s a state that happens when the nervous system feels safe and supported.

If your baby struggles more at bedtime after a long wake window, it’s not because they “need to learn.”

It’s because their body is asking for help regulating.

Somewhere along the way, parents were taught to believe that waking, needing comfort, and sleeping lightly means something is wrong.

But infant sleep is protective, not broken.

Frequent wakes support feeding, brain development, and nervous system regulation.

Your baby isn’t manipulating you.

They aren’t failing sleep.

And neither are you.

Your baby isn’t a bad sleeper.

They’re a baby—and this season is allowed to be exactly what it is.

When your baby sleeps on you, their nervous system is borrowing yours.

Contact naps help regulate heart rate, breathing, temperature, and stress hormones.

Your warmth, scent, and steady presence signal safety to an immature nervous system—allowing sleep to happen.

This isn’t creating bad habits.
It’s co-regulation.

And it’s developmentally appropriate.

If you’re holding your baby while they sleep and wondering if you’re doing something wrong—
you’re not.

You’re supporting their nervous system exactly as it was designed to be supported.

Hi, I’m Sarah and I’m a registered nurse specializing in postpartum, lactation, pediatrics, and infant sleep. I’ve officially opened my own practice to support moms and their babies with the care they deserve!

I’m opening a small number of founders rate spots for my postpartum support services!

This rate applies to any service I offer and is my way of beginning this work in a grounded, intentional way.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or in need of steady support — I’d be honored to walk along beside you.

Founders spots are limited!

DM me “FOUNDERS” for details 🫶🏻

This process takes us about 15-20 minutes. It’s what works for us to help wind down. Studies have shown that having a consistent bedtime routine leads to better quality sleep in children.

What did I miss!? Anything you do in your routine that I didn’t include! Would love to hear in the comments 🤍😊

Sleep doesn’t have to feel like something you’re failing at.
And this season doesn’t have to be something you carry alone.

My work is about offering steady, evidence-based support during a tender time —
creating a clear plan, honoring your baby’s cues, and walking with you as you find your footing again.

There is no one “right” way to support your baby’s sleep.
There is a way that feels aligned, gentle, and sustainable for your family.

If you’re moving through this stage and want calm guidance instead of noise,
I’d love to be part of your village and support you through it. 🤍
