This is a great article that explains the connection between hearing loss and dementia, and why wearing hearing aids is so important.
People in their sixties who get a hearing aid can reduce their chances of developing dementia by 61 per cent compared with those who do nothing to address the early stages of hearing loss, research suggests.
There is growing evidence that hearing loss plays a key role in a significant proportion of dementia cases and one study this year suggested a third of cases may be linked to auditory issues.
It is thought that as hearing declines naturally with age it can increase the “cognitive load” on the brain, as people strain to make out what others are saying
