Operating in fear is not the answer. Stepping into your power is stepping into the highest frequency of your being: love, clarity, freedom, harmony.

I’ve been sharing my birth stories and journey through motherhood a lot lately. I’ve been deep diving even further into my own healing, especially around motherhood and birth. There’s this wave that hit recently that drew me in so deep within myself… Shifting my perspective and understanding of myself yet again.

Both of my births contributed to the story of how I stepped into my own power. (As birth should!) However, both births were a chapter of how I was stripped of it first…

Let me reword that a bit: of how I stripped myself of my power.

During the pregnancy and birth of my second, I was asked to go so far beyond myself… I was nowhere near ready to show up as all of me. Slowly, I gave pieces of my power away… Until the very end, I stopped. But even after what *seemed* like me taking back my power, as I was in the depths of labor, I was not ready for it. I was not ready to step into my own power. I couldn’t even fathom what I was capable of, how beautiful and powerful my inner knowing is, and that I am worthy of a life with me fully in it - a life with all of Neena, as big as I really am and was made to be.

Step into your power.

And if you don’t know how or where you’re at in this journey or even where to start, find a community/resource that guides and teaches (rather than persuades and convinces). Begin healing - a healing that is far more than just physical.

Step into your power because the world needs you right now - all of you - claiming your truth and speaking up for it.

A doula is a witness.

A witness to your journey.
A witness to an ancient tradition and passage.
A witness to the innate wisdom that is within us all.

They will help create a space of love and honor, one that allows you to step into that ancient pathway.

Your breast is not a bottle.
So quit viewing it this way and using it as such.

Breastfeeding is so much more than *just feeding*.

In my experience, the ones who view breastfeeding in this ways are most often the ones who experience more anxiety.

Because the moment baby needs mom more or to nurse more, mom begins to spiral with doubt. Doubts about her body and stress about "making enough"...

Part of you plan/preparation for breastfeeding needs to include your view of breastfeeding. What is breastfeeding to you? What do you think it should look like? How do you want it to feel?

How was the birth?

But really... How was your birth?

I've heard a lot of mamas respond, "It was birth. It went well - just fine... As good as I could've hoped."

So I dive further into that.
"Did you feel supported during your birth?"

Because you should not only feel good about the outcome... You should feel completely supported and loved and seen and heard. Visualize it: look around at the people that surrounded you during your birth. Think about the energy they offered; their presence; their support, or even lack-there-of.

You should feel empowered by what you just went through and the capability of your body.

Were you supported during birth? Unpack that. Process that.

And if you need help, I'm here for you 💖

Do you really believe all of the lies we’re fed in regards to womanhood, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, motherhood?

That your body is subpar or incapable and cannot perform as it was created and intended to?

That 34% of births are medical emergencies? (This is the percentage of Cesarean births in the U.S., to which the majority are told theirs was “an emergent situation” or “failure” of their body.)

If you’re feeling totally, here are some of the phrases or misconceptions I can refer to:
“Your baby is too big.”
“You’re not dilated enough.”
“I can’t pick up baby’s heart rate on the monitor, so surely something is wrong.”
“Your pelvis just won’t birth a baby.”
“Failure to progress.”
“Those period symptoms are normal…”
“You don’t have to bleed every month - there are plenty of options that may stop this.”

I encourage you to dig deeper. I encourage you to look into your experience and step away from what you’ve been told. Step aside from your thoughts and preconceptions. Block out the noise.

Because you were made for this. Your body IS capable and was beautifully made to do the things it was designed to do. (Your pelvis was made to open and expand for *your* baby, regardless of the size. Your immune system was made to fight and keep our body functioning at its best. Your monthly bleed serves a very important purpose. The hormones in your body impact more than just your emotions and cycle. ETC.) Even if your body led you down a darker path, there is purpose in it.

We were created in our beautiful bodies to experience life. We were/are told to take care of them, but not get too greedy - don’t over manage the design.

If you have ever found yourself believing those things (or any others you could think of as you read this), dive deeper into that and question all of it.

Today’s in-home support for the postpartum mother looked like:

🤱🏼 Hands-on help/guidance with breastfeeding.
Mom expressed today that she’d like to try new positions because she “just never feels comfortable” in the only position the hospital taught her: cross cradle. (While this position is a good one for early breastfeeding, some new moms just don’t mesh with it.) She simply didn’t know of any other, and she felt awkward on her own. We tried a few different holds, and ultimately, she loved side-lying and a laid back position.

🥣 Prepared a bone broth in the Instant Pot for sipping and future meals.
After our last visit, the family was going to pick-up beef bones for broth. They never did make it on their own - I found the bones in the fridge still. So I prepared a quick batch that would be ready-to-go just following the end of my visit.

And as I was in the kitchen, I did the dishes; prepared a quick, one-handed snack for mom; brewed mom a cup of coffee; and refilled her water bottle.

🧹 Housekeeping.
While mom enjoyed her coffee and her awake baby, I vacuumed, cleaned the bathrooms (making sure to tidy mom’s postpartum care supplies), and put away the laundry that was sitting in the basket, folded.

Each visit looks so different, but each visit meets a family where they’re at, mothering the new mother and nourishing the home.
