You don’t need to be a victim of cold and flu season. Your health is completely in your control. A few things you can do to avoid a nasty bug this year:

1. Get plenty of sleep. Your immune system rebuilds and is most active while you sleep

Careful! Dehydration can easily happen on these hot summer days

Make sure your consuming plenty of fluids, but be careful to not drink too much plain water. Plain water can actually cause you to lose sodium, potassium and magnesium actually making dehydration worse.

A great way to ensure your body actually absorbs the water you consume is to drink herbal tea! The nutrients in the herbs help your body to absorb the water you consume and drive water into your cells keeping you hydrated.

Don’t consume too much coffee or green/black tea though because the caffeine can also contribute to dehydration.

Coffee not friend? Jitters, anxiety, upset stomach? You’ve probably experienced this before even if you add lion’s mane or other adaptogens to your morning brew.

Make sure you’re having your coffee AFTER a protein-rich nutritious breakfast, and ideally a few hours after you wake up. This will help balance out your hormones along with your added ‘shrooms.

We love our mushroom coffee, but it doesn’t count as breakfast, and it shouldn’t be the first thing you drink in the morning.

We’ve all heard health experts tell us one day that caffeine is bad and we should limit or stop drinking coffee, and then the next day someone tells us that caffeine is great for our cognitive health and metabolism.

So which is it?

Yes, drinking coffee might not be great for our mental health, sleep or hormones in large doses, but maybe it’s actually just fuel on the fire instead of the fire itself.

I recently drank coffee with lion’s mane every day while in Hawaii with no negative side effects. Meanwhile, I had one coffee during a stressful work day, and it wreaked havoc on my stress levels, digestion and sleep.

Food for thought, but you most likely don’t need to give up coffee but probably work on managing or reducing stress. Our Rest & Recharge and Relax & Unwind are great for that!

Maybe instead of focusing the news cycle on why there is a shortage of adderall prescriptions, we should be thinking about why there are tens of millions of prescriptions for what are basically amphetamines.

Why are so many people, especially children, requiring strong pharmaceuticals every day in order to function?

Why are these prescriptions handed out like candy before addressing diet and lifestyle?

Maybe what all these people need are more exercise, less screen time and better nutrition?

Maybe people can just get a hard morning workout and have some lion’s mane coffee instead?

All just some good for thought before prescribing people pharmaceutical drugs
