Adrienne started her journey into the world of lactation as a mother struggling to breastfeed
her oldest son. Thanks to an amazing support group and a wonderful IBCLC she was able to meet her own feeding goals. Adrienne got involved in La Leche League (LLL) and became an accredited LLL leader. Her 2nd son was born the same day as her accreditation. As a LLL leader Adrienne led group meetings, provided breastfeeding support via the phone and continued her lactation education. The more involved she was the more her passion for breastfeeding and helping families grew. In 2003, Adrienne had completed all the prerequisites to sit for the certification exam given by International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). Adrienne passed the exam and became an IBCLC. She has recertified every 5 years as required by the IBLCE and continues to increase her knowledge through conferences, classes and hands on practice. Adrienne has worked in the hospital, in community clinics and volunteered with both La Leche League and now, Baby Cafe Bakersfield. She is a founding member and current board president of Central Valley Lactation Association. She is active in lactation advocacy at the local, state and national levels. She works tirelessly to ensure families have the support they need for as long as they are breastfeeding. Holistic is defined as dealing with or treating the whole of something or someone and not just a part. Lactation is a relationship that involves two people and breastfeeding. When working with breastfeeding problems or concerns, it is important to treat both people and breastfeeding itself. As an IBCLC, it is Adrienne's job to assess all three of these parts and figure out the best plan to improve breastfeeding outcomes.
