This month I am knitting to raise money for the and I am sending gifts to those who donate (USA only, sorry, postage is too high internationally) washcloths were already sent to someone who donated but this week there are hats fresh off my needles. A large slouch hat in green blue and white,
A newborn hat in silver and blue and my favorite thing to knit shown in dark blue merino hand dyed yarn…premie baby hat. (Which also fits 18” dolls btw) Donate and then comment below “I donated” and I will send you your gift. Link is in my bio.

I had so much fun showing my kindergarten class how I make my abstract watercolors. We used ph Martins liquid watercolors and dropped these bright vivid colors onto wet paper. With a little help from the class the colors were blended. Then they splattered iridescent watercolors (it was like cleaning up after a parrot who had just been fed). They took water soluble crayons and practiced mark making and doodling. This week they will cut them into circles and glue them on black paper to make their own colorful planets. The papers turned out so beautiful it will be hard to cut them up!

My commute to work this morning was a winter wonderland of giant snowflakes! I couldn’t resist the photos while driving! Don’t worry I was on a back road and there was no traffic.

Charcoal drawing for a friend to give as a Christmas present. Posting now as I know for sure the gift has been received. I still do pet portraits when asked. This one was fun. I applied charcoal directly to a blending stump to put in the lowlights on the dog’s fur.

Spent the day with gazing at the sparkling sea high above the city of San Francisco. We painted and ate delicious gluten free cakes and pizza from in Petaluma. Such an amazing day!! And the weather was beautiful!

RIP to Eleanor the stray cat that lived in our backyard. She was so sweet and polite. Preferred to remove herself rather than fight with the neighborhood cats. She relished early morning sunlight and made nests in the leaves. It took months of coaxing before she let me pat her. But we grew to have an understanding that was special. I will miss looking out the window and seeing her. She was elderly and I gave her a sweet retirement spot. May she find all the sunshine she loves so much and deserves over that rainbow bridge. 😢❤️

The Youth art show in Auburn CA. It was a requirement for my HS students to put a piece in this show, you can see their framed pieces behind and above me, but I was excited to have 10 more pieces from elementary grades to add to the collection. This is such an amazing opportunity for my students to participate in and learn about the process of putting their artwork out in a gallery. As an artist it takes great courage to put our work out there to be seen and I applaud these students for their creativity and courage.

I am so behind in posting this! Now that I am teaching art again K-12 4 days a week, it has been a bit all consuming. However, I still sit down once a month and enter my own pieces in calls to artists. This year I entered my piece “Grace”in the Placerville Arts Association show and was selected. This was such a beautiful show! What an honor to be there with all those incredibly talented artists! You can still see the show online at https://www.paa.gallery/ The in person exhibit has closed.

Things come together and fall apart and come together in this rhythm that makes me think of the changing seasons or the days end. We all accept these things and even find them beautiful in many ways. At the same time I always feel this tug in my heart towards the days end, especially when I haven t finished all my tasks…but yet there is a call to rest…just like the trees rest during the cold months after shedding all their glorious colors. There is something in all of it that is beautiful…a call to peace and rest, a call to letting go. I believe this happens in us emotionally as well. We must learn to appreciate our own seasonal rhythms…our responses to the environment around us. Allowing this to happen brings us peace.

I have worked very hard to come to this realization and done so much growth to be able to see it. It really works to hold things loosely. It isn’t easy! But I don’t carry around so much weight on my heart anymore. And that is a beautiful thing. I wish for you to also find this peace. The peace from letting go of the things you aren’t meant to carry. Let go of the past and live right here right now. This is the only moment we are guaranteed. What would it look like to just set down all those worries and painful memories, just for this moment?
