Thanks to Assemblyman Joe Patterson California has signed in resolution bill ACR41 annually in support & recognition of individuals with Down syndrome. This bill recognizes March 21, 2025 as CA Down Syndrome Awareness Day & the week of March 16, 2025 to March 22, 2025 as CA Ds Awareness Week. If you have not yet signed up to participate in this AMAZING event a the State Capitol, I encourage you to do so now. I am so thankful for Assemblyman Patterson & his continued support & recognition for individuals with Ds in CA. This year he also chose to add an additional event to honor individuals with Ds & their families with an Open House at his Rocklin office tonight March 18, 2025 from 5-7pm. I will post the links to both of these events in the comments below & hope to see everyone there. 🥰

Typical image we see everyday, teenagers & adults on their phones. Giving a phone was the BEST decision we made in helping him move towards independence. It has opened doors I once didnt image possible thanks to so many advances in tech. He is able to use to help him seamlessly text friends & family & even order at a restaurant from someone who doesn’t know ASL. This has brought him great joy & I am so grateful for the advances in this AAC app. 😊 Thanks to advances in bluetooth and hearing aids he is able to Facetime, answer calls, watch tv/movies, listen to audio books all along with the assistance of captioning too. Apps like weather allow him to prepare for cold temps so he doesn’t get inflammation from his CAPS condition; & thanks to he can always see where we are 😋 aka tell mom shes late picking him up 😂 So thank you for changing the world for my extra awesome son with assistive tech & apps that have given him a VOICE & helped him work towards Greater Independence everyday. 🥰

So thankful for those who sacrificed so we had the FREEDOM TO VOTE today. Your VOTE does matter! Your VOTE can change a community, a city, a state, a nation! I will NEVER neglect to remember the cost our FREEDOM to vote came at & why IT IS SO IMPORTANT as an American. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. So let’s share some inspirational ways people with Down syndrome are more alike than different. Sac-Hi Sports featured a 4min inspirational video about Malachi’s journey in inclusion sports. When inclusion is done right it’s no longer “inclusion,” you’re another guy, a brother, a friend on the team. This video is a PERFECT example of why inclusion in education matters & how EVERYONE benefits. See video link in comments

Thanks to recent changes in CA Ed Code people w/ cognitive impairment can now earn a HS diploma 🥰 Malachi has been fully included in Gen Ed w/ his typical peers PK-12. He worked 100x harder than anyone else to learn. The gained benefits from learning alongside his peers can’t be measured by a state achievement test but will forever leave an indelible mark on everyone. After earning a Cert of Completion he chose to go back & do a SUPER SR yr to complete 7 more classes & earn the NEW DIPLOMA!

This is why . 🥰Malachi has been a teammate of the Hillmen football team for almost 9yrs & his teammates couldn’t win without him! He lives & breathes for school, football & friends. Inclusion has made the difference & helped his teammates to see just another guy on the team & not the label.

Summer is here & it was time for a short SUMMER CUT! We LOVE our Barber Anthony Luka! Malachi hasn't always enjoyed getting his haircut so I have always held a HIGH REGARD for his Barber. He now kicks back, but there was a time when it took 3 people to get his haircut. LOL As the Covid crisis continues and we see our Favorite Barber have to CLOSE his DOORS once again, WE SEND our LOVE & PRAYERS to all the Barbers & Beauticians that are struggling to make it during this difficult time. We'll be first in line when your doors open again Anthony!
