The problem is that no one teaches them HOW to connect.
Some children are not avoiding play because they want to be alone.
They may not know:
how to join in,
what to say,
how to stay flexible,
or how to handle the overwhelm that can come with social situations.
And parents are often told:
“Just give it time.”
“They’ll grow out of it.”
But social skills are learned.
Just like language.
Just like emotional regulation.
Just like play.
Some children truly want connection…
but don’t yet have the tools to navigate it confidently.
That’s why in my language play-based social skills groups, children practice:
✨ communication
✨ flexibility
✨ emotional regulation
✨ friendship skills
Through guided play, connection, and support.
Not pressure.
Not forcing interaction.
Not expecting them to “just figure it out.”
Because children do not need to be pushed through social situations.
They need support while moving through them. 💕
If you know a parent who needs this reminder today, share this with them.
