I hear this all the time from my families ‘My child won’t stop using the ipad - what do I do?’

My children were the same. I totally get it. Screens are easy. They’re everywhere. But when they take over, play gets pushed out- and that’s where kids learn to connect.

⭐ Play builds thinking.
⭐ Play builds language.
⭐ Play builds relationships.

It’s not about cutting screens completely. Even five minutes of pretend play instead of another video? That’s a win.

Let’s bring back more of those moments-the ones that actually build connections.

You’re probably asking yourself, ‘Why does this toy give me the ick?’ Let’s talk about it...

If a toy lights up, talks, sings, spins- or even uses batteries- chances are, it’s doing the playing for your child. And when toys take over, your child misses out on moments to lead, explore and connect.

Look for toys the DON’T take over.

Think: blocks, pretend food, dolls, animal figures and even paper cups!

Simple tools = powerful growth💛

⭐ Save this for your next toy haul.

Tag a friend who’s over the noisy chaos!

Just because a child gets upset when they hear “no” doesn’t mean something is wrong.

They’re allowed to feel mad.
They’re allowed to cry.
They’re allowed to not like a boundary.

That’s part of learning.

Here’s the shift: When we stop expecting kids to handle emotions they haven’t learned to manage yet—and start guiding them through those feelings with patience—
things start to change.

It’s not about removing the emotion.

It’s about helping them handle it with support and safety.

Big feelings are hard.

But they don’t have to be scary—for them or for you.

⭐ Ask questions in the comments or send this to someone who might find this helpful.

Parenting doesn’t come with a manual.

And when your child is struggling socially or emotionally, it can feel like you’re doing something wrong.

This is not your fault.

You’re not missing something.
You’re not too late.
You’re doing the best you can do with what you’ve been given.

The love, patience, the way you keep showing up-

That’s everything.

When connection feels out of reach...It’s NOT because you’re failing.

No one ever showed you how.

So how would you know?

🧠 Early support isn’t about rushing to label a child-It’s about giving them the tools to connect, communicate ,and build social-emotional skills they need to thrive.

You don’t need to do this alone.

Let’s talk about modeling—because it’s one of the most powerful things we do as adults around kids.

They watch everything.

And what we show them? That’s what sticks.

Modeling is how kids start to build language, learn how to handle big feelings, and connect with others.

It’s not a bonus skill—it’s the foundation.

✅ Want more language? Try this:
“I’m putting on my shoes… now my coat!”

✅ Want to support regulation? Say:
“I’m feeling a little sad. I’m going to take a deep breath.”

✅ Want to build connection? Lead with:
“Hi, let’s play!”

They don’t always listen to what we say.

But they always pick up on what we do.

✨ If this resonates, save it or share it with another parent who’s in it with you.
