Hello Austin,

We had an impressive turnout this past Saturday at our mini-health event to promote Preventative Healthcare.

This is AVAMPS’s first time teaching and demonstrating basic first aid, Heimlich Maneuver, and basic CPR to our Vietnamese adults and seniors. We taught 45 individuals basic first aid steps to save their own life, their spouse’s life, their grandchildren’s life, and anyone who needs help.

Individuals who participated in the training and returned demonstration on the mannequins received a gift bag full of fresh fruits and vegetables donated by Austin Public Health Neighborhood Services and a patient teaching information sheet for First Aid and CPR both in Vietnamese and English to share with family members and post on their refrigerator. Many people were apprehensive about doing chest compressions but once they started, they gained confidence and performed the compressions correctly. All participants expressed deep gratitude for being taught these basic life saving strategies.

THANK YOU to Austin Public Health Mobile Immunization Program team who worked diligently to provide FREE essential and often times lifesaving vaccines. Despite a skeleton crew- you did it. YOU all ROCK!!!

THANK YOU to Ms. Diamond (certified CPR instructor) with Life Enrichment and Safety Institute who traveled from San Antonio to conduct the basic first aid and CPR demonstration. Our partnership for the past 5 years has continued to grow as we help our community stay safe.

THANK YOU to Ms. Jenny Loan Ton for allowing us to use the space for the event. Having the correct health insurance is essential in staying healthy and she is ale to navigate this complex process for our Vietnamese adults and seniors.

THANK YOU to Uncle Phan’s for donating delicious food to our 25 volunteers.

THANK YOU to the 25 members of the Hội Cao Niên (Austin Vietnamese Senior Citizens) organization and our community members who came to benefit from all the FREE services.

AND finally, a BIG THANK YOU to our rock stars-the volunteers. We had 6 new volunteers and 19 returning members.

AVAMPS’s mission it to increase the health and wellness of our Vietnamese high-risk adults, seniors, and uninsured individuals through Primary Preventative Healthcare. Today, together we hope to have helped our community move towards improved population health. See you all in 3 months!!!

Event reminder:

Free Community Mini-Health Event tomorrow Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 11am to 2pm at Jenny Loan Ton Medical Insurance office in the My Thanh Supermarket shopping mall. There are many FREE health services for everyone such as vaccines, learning how to SAVE A LIFE with first aid and CPR, medical consultations, and so much more. Austin Public Health Neighborhood Services will give away to the first 40 people free fruits and vegetables. Let’s all stay healthy together.

AVAMPS along with Austin Public Health and the insurance office of Jenny Loan Ton will have a PREVENTATIVE mini-health event for the community on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 11am to 2pm.

Austin Public Health will provide free vaccines to those individuals who need their first, second, or third doses of vaccines (Hepatitis A and B, Pneumonia, Shingles, Monkey Pox, Flu, and Moderna Covid). Furthermore, those individuals who received vaccines at the annual health fair on OCT. 11, 2025 at Juan Navarro Early College can complete their vaccines series at this event. The vaccines are available from 11am to 1pm ONLY and is on a first-come first-serve basis.

Ms. Jenny Loan Ton offers free consultation and enrollment assistance for medical insurance, Medicare, Food Stamps, Social Security benefits, and clarification of benefits, and more.

Life Enrichment and Safety Institute offers FREE first aid and CPR hands-on demonstrations to help SAVE A LIFE. Unresolved choking on food leading to immediate death is 100% preventable. The lack of basic knowledge to preform CPR resulting in a death is also 100% preventable. Many of our seniors care for other seniors and young children- two of the most vulnerable populations. Let’s all learn basic steps together and SAVE A LIFE.

Falls among seniors remain deadly for this age group. We have had several adverse events resulting from a fall among our seniors in our community. Let’s learn simple strategies to prevent a fall in this high-risk population. Yes, it can SAVE A LIFE.

As always, there are medical professionals on site to provide education, support, and referrals to community resources. We encourage the entire family to come!!!

Happy Lunar New Year!!!

AVAMPS wants to wish everyone an abundance of peace, good health, and good luck for the coming new year 2026.

This is the year of the horse. Historically speaking, horses have been on Earth for over 50 million years. They are often characterized as one of men’s faithful companions- from working in the fields, carrying cargo to enriching many people’s lives with their shear presence. Their physical beauty and strength mirrors that of us humans as we strive to coexist PEACFULLY and MINDFULLY in this world.

As the new year begins, we have an opportunity to yet again “reset” and “start fresh” by being graceful and letting go of imperfections of the past; and to embrace our loved ones and be grateful of life’s treasures.

Good morning all!!!

Yesterday, December 7, 2025, AVAMPS, OEBB, and Walgreens (donated flu vaccines) provided FREE primary healthcare services at Linh Son Buddhist Temple on Duval Road, Austin, Tx.

We were truly honored that the entire community, age range from 87 years old to 8 years old, benefited from our health event.
AVAMPS’s goal is to vaccinate the entire family to PROTECT our very important and special older adults and chronically ill loved ones in our lives. There were several brave children who got their flu vaccine yesterday! We profusely thank the parents who brought their kids to get vaccinated. The adults benefited from patient education and medical consultation from medical professionals- not google search or AI. And of course, the seniors LOVE the comprehensive vision services.

These mini-health events offered directly in the community in which people reside are one of the most effective ways to improve population health. Not only was this a health-based event for all ages, but it was also a social event for the isolated older adults.

We sincerely THANK Linh Son Temple for welcoming us into their home and providing a warm, refreshing, and delicious lunch. We THANK the volunteers that continue to give back and serve the community unconditionally!

Good morning all,

Many people ask- why should I get a flu vaccine?

That is an excellent and valid question. According to the CDC, seasonal flu vaccines are effective in preventing the onset of the flu illness. Most beneficailly, by getting the flu vaccine, you minimize your symptoms of the illness should you do get the virus. The truth is, if you are young and healthy and you got the flu illness, the chances of you recovering from the flu are fast and you may not have long-term negative effects on your overall health.

So then again, why should you get the flu vaccine? The most IMPORTANT reason WHY you should get the flu vaccine is to protect the older adults and chronically ill individuals in your life. Older adults and those with chronic illnesses who get the flu virus from any source, mostly from an unprotected (those who were not vaccinated) family member, can be at risk for major health complications resulting in severe debility, hospitalization, and even death. Furthermore, older adults and chronically ill individuals are especially vulnerable to all viral and bacterial infections because they take care of young children and live in a generational family setting in the same home.

So, before gathering with your 100 family members to celebrate the season, please consider getting a flu vaccine to keep your entire family safe and healthy. We encourage all of you to get vaccinated this season and every year!

This coming Sunday, December 7, 2025, there will be a FREE flu vaccine event along with many FREE services.
