Good morning all!!!

Yesterday, December 7, 2025, AVAMPS, OEBB, and Walgreens (donated flu vaccines) provided FREE primary healthcare services at Linh Son Buddhist Temple on Duval Road, Austin, Tx.

We were truly honored that the entire community, age range from 87 years old to 8 years old, benefited from our health event.
AVAMPS’s goal is to vaccinate the entire family to PROTECT our very important and special older adults and chronically ill loved ones in our lives. There were several brave children who got their flu vaccine yesterday! We profusely thank the parents who brought their kids to get vaccinated. The adults benefited from patient education and medical consultation from medical professionals- not google search or AI. And of course, the seniors LOVE the comprehensive vision services.

These mini-health events offered directly in the community in which people reside are one of the most effective ways to improve population health. Not only was this a health-based event for all ages, but it was also a social event for the isolated older adults.

We sincerely THANK Linh Son Temple for welcoming us into their home and providing a warm, refreshing, and delicious lunch. We THANK the volunteers that continue to give back and serve the community unconditionally!

Good morning all,

Many people ask- why should I get a flu vaccine?

That is an excellent and valid question. According to the CDC, seasonal flu vaccines are effective in preventing the onset of the flu illness. Most beneficailly, by getting the flu vaccine, you minimize your symptoms of the illness should you do get the virus. The truth is, if you are young and healthy and you got the flu illness, the chances of you recovering from the flu are fast and you may not have long-term negative effects on your overall health.

So then again, why should you get the flu vaccine? The most IMPORTANT reason WHY you should get the flu vaccine is to protect the older adults and chronically ill individuals in your life. Older adults and those with chronic illnesses who get the flu virus from any source, mostly from an unprotected (those who were not vaccinated) family member, can be at risk for major health complications resulting in severe debility, hospitalization, and even death. Furthermore, older adults and chronically ill individuals are especially vulnerable to all viral and bacterial infections because they take care of young children and live in a generational family setting in the same home.

So, before gathering with your 100 family members to celebrate the season, please consider getting a flu vaccine to keep your entire family safe and healthy. We encourage all of you to get vaccinated this season and every year!

This coming Sunday, December 7, 2025, there will be a FREE flu vaccine event along with many FREE services.

Good morning,

AVAMPS and OEBB will have another FREE health event for children and adults on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2025, from 11am to 1pm at Linh Son Buddhist Temple, 4604 Duval Dr, Austin, TX.

This is another opportunity for the Vietnamese community to get a free flu vaccine, vision screening, patient education, and developing a sense of connectedness among our community. In addition to these services, AVAMPS will provide blood pressure screening, patient education on health issues, and medical consultation. OEBB will provide vision consultation, free gifts, and so much more!

This is a FREE public event, especially for those without insurance, and no appointment is needed.

Good morning everyone,

BRRRHHH! It is so COLD this morning but here is a feel-good story to warm the soul.

Yesterday, Sunday NOV 9, 2025, AVAMPS served the Vietnamese Catholic community of Austin on Yager Lane with nearly 60 Free Flu vaccines in 1.5 hours.

AVAMPS is deeply encouraged that many uninsured and disabled individuals benefited from the vaccines yesterday. Another humbling moment was when one of our medical volunteers brought her aging parent and young child to get a flu shot. We are reminded that advancing population health MUST include the entire family at the community level.

AVAMPS respectfully THANK Father Minh and his congregation for allowing us to be a part of the Catholic extended family.

AVAMPS thanks the volunteers that brave the windy cold conditions to help our fellow Vietnamese community. We are forever grateful for your unconditional support at EVERY event. By the way, children and young adults are watching us adult volunteers; and it may inspire them to give back to the community. It must take a VILLAGE of volunteers to sustain the health and wellness of a VILLAGE!! Join us in the art of volunterism.

Good morning,

What a spectacular morning! In keeping with good health and longevity, lets encourage our family and friends to get a FREE flu vaccine tomorrow- Sunday, NOV 9, 2025 from 11am to 12:30pm in front of the Vietnamese Catholic Church on 1107 E. Yager Lane. There is more parking across the street, but it may require walking over to the church side.

For those who have mobility issues, are immunocompromised, or are elderly and wish to stay in the car, one of our medical team members will come to you. Please have a family member come see us at the registration table or please text/call 512-496-3285.

Good evening all,

Today, Sunday, November 2, 2025 AVAMPS served the community of Chùa Pháp Hoa by providing free flu vaccines. There are several memorable moments worth noting. 1)There were several families who had more than 4 individuals vaccinated; 2) two teenagers were first vaccinators!!! Hooray to these individuals who are our heroes for the day; 3) A late award given to a young lady for her commitment to AVAMPS and the community; and 4) The delicious foods offered by the volunteers at the temple.

This past October 11, 2025, AVAMPS celebrated our 25th Anniversary and we honored 10 individuals or organizations for their contribution to AVAMPS and the Vietnamese community. Among the recipients was Ms. Linh Nguyen, Registered Nurse. That day, Linh came to the health fair at 7am but left early to return to her medical school in San Antonio to give a presentation. Needless to say, she was not aware of her award and did not receive her Appreciation Award that day. And so today, AVAMPS’s officers- Drs. Viet and Luan Tran presented her with the prestigious and well-deserving award.

Linh started volunteering for AVAMPS 10 years ago at the Patient Education Table. Her high energy, passion for learning, and happy disposition was ever-so contagious. Since she is bilingual, she was able to connect with all age groups with ease and was very effective as an educator. After the third year of volunteering with AVAMPS, she revealed to me, “I LOVE this! AVAMPS is my role model. I want to keep doing this.” Six years later she was accepted into medical school. AVAMPS is so proud of her personal and professional growth. Her love for humanity is deep, and her sense of community is strong. We will be very lucky to have her practice medicine in Austin, and we cannot wait to see her blossom into a leadership role in the Vietnamese Community. Congratulations Linh!

Finally, AVAMPS is so thankful for Chùa Pháp Hoa for allowing us to provide primary care to many high risk and marginalized individuals. We thank you for your kindness and as always- ahh, the delicious food that feeds the soul.

Hello Austin,

Today Open Eyes Beyond Border and AVAMPS served the Vietnamese Seniors at their center on Jamestown Drive. We were honored by a very young Vietnamese gentleman who is 91 years old and drove himself to the event! He is handsome and vibrant, very articulate, and had a positive spirit. He states, “The heavens gave me one body; and why not take good care of it?” He is doing something right! How about that for inspiring us youngsters to take better care of our health.

THANK YOU to the President of the Vietnamese Senior Center, Mr. Nhan Nguyen, for allowing us to host our annual event. THANK YOU to the volunteers who came ready to help. AND thank you for the warm hospitability among our extended family and new friends.

Those of you who have not received your seasonal free flu vaccines, here are two more opportunities to protect yourself and others from the flu. Remember, it is NOT fun being sick at home while others are happy-go-lucky NOT at home!
