The Learning Architect

The Learning Architect Round Rock Area Advocacy, Advocacy-Coaching, and Tutoring for Diverse Learners including Gifted, ADHD, Dyspraxia, Autism, Sensory, etc.

I am an architect, and as such, I enjoy creative problem solving. I have completed my masters degree in Architecture, which has given me considerable training in shifting paradigms. If you need someone to help you make an action plan so that your path with your child is broken into steps, I can help. If you need help with advocacy at your child's school, I have experience both as an advocate for and as a parent of square-peg kids. If you need someone to coach you through getting alternate learning plans in motion at your child's school, I can help you understand the laws and policies that protect kids with diverse learning needs. If you need a tutor who devises alternate strategies so that your child can experience success, I take an individualised approach to your child's learning. I can tutor your child directly, or I can brainstorm with you as the parent or caretaker to help you come up with sustainable strategies to help your child learn. I value the expertise of parents, and I am happy to read any reports you have on your child. If you need a sounding board or if you are wondering where to go from "here," I may be able to connect you to resources or professionals or to groups that can help you on your journey. When one of my children was diagnosed five years ago as twice exceptional (that is both gifted and with a learning difficulty/diability), I plunged into research to help her learn, and discovered that I too share many of the characteristics of the twice-exceptional, though I have never been formally diagnosed. While I was spending great amounts of time researching, I began to work at a large Catholic girls' school as a private tutor for indigenous girls, and to volunteer and to tutor privately within my children's school community. I also began to learn about advocacy through my own journey with my children who share 6 different learning challenges among them along with high strengths in some areas. My involvement with many different parents through being the president of the Brisbane North Branch of Queensland Association of Gifted and Talented Children from 2013 through 2014 gave me a broader perspective of the challenges that gifted children and gifted children with learning disabilies face, and a better understanding of research-based education practice. At the end of 2014, my family moved from Australia to Texas. I believe in public schools and my children attend and have always attended public schools, both in Texas and in Australia. I also believe in advocating for children's individual needs within the public school system with the goal of improving understanding and outcomes for the individual child and groups with similar challenges or strengths. This year, I have begun work on the Round Rock ISD's Talented and Gifted Parent Advisory Committee, on both the "services" and "2E" committee. I absolutely love tutoring, working with and encouraging parents, and thinking of creative solutions to complex problems, and researching solutions and education law. I started my business in Queensland Australia to merge my passions into something that serves diverse learners and encourages their parents, and I am looking forward to work in Round Rock as well.
