Reports to: Operations Manager
Salary/Benefits: $18.00 hourly, benefits package includes: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, FSA, PTO
Hours: Daytime 8:30am-5:00pm, some evenings and Saturdays
Start Date: January 2020

Gender Health Center is an innovative Sacramento-based non-profit organization serving the needs of the trans and gender non-conforming communities. Our mission is “to provide education, advocacy, mental health and other health services to underserved and marginalized populations as an act of social justice with a specialization in gender and sexual identities”.
Under supervision of the Operations Manager, the Front Desk Assistant answers the phones, greets community members, accepts payments and books future appointments for counselors and advocates. This person must effectively interact with community members and clinicians to procure timely appointment offerings and maintain a positive relationship with customers.
Specific Duties for this position include:
Bilingual Spanish/English is required Works closely with Operations Manager to ensure the efficiency of front desk procedures Attends program meetings
Act as ambassador of GHC to create a welcoming environment for community members Open the facility each day and follow opening procedures. Complete room schedule each day
Answer high volume of incoming calls and respond to voicemails promptly Greet community members and inform staff of appointment arrival Accept payments and book future appointments for community members and clinicians (GHC uses Square POS)
Provide general support and maintain the general tidiness of the front office
Adherence to GHC organizational policies Ability to prioritize work assignments and manage time properly Ability to verbally communicate effectively by phone, in person, and email Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Highly organized and pays attention to details Excellent customer service skills Establishes and maintains effective working relationships within the agency and related sources Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time Ability to lift and carry 25lb. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Front desk experience in health care or mental health care setting
Ability to flex schedule to cover shifts for sick and vacation time
Ability to work independently and as a team
Excellent customer service experience
Crisis management training/experience
Sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
Attention to detail; healthy interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with community members, team members, other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task while working with a diverse participant population
Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple tasks to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines
Bilingual English/Spanish speaking required
Qualities:
A person of transgender experience and relevant education or work experience in transgender health or healthcare navigation
Understanding of harm reduction, social determinants of health, impact of systemic oppressions (for instance racism, ableism, etc)
Approachable, non-judgmental, empathetic, and calm in conflict or crisis
Knowledge of local health and social service agencies, and local healthcare service delivery
Strong interpersonal skills, and collaborative, team-oriented approach
Ability to work independently, problem-solve and follow through
Commitment to practices of confidentiality (HIPAA) and ethical service delivery
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Commitment to applying social justice principles to health and social services
Knowledge of diversity of trans and gender non-conforming communities, and ability to connect with target population
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in organizations that provide harm reduction and social service delivery with communities affected by systemic marginalization due to poverty, gender identity, racism, disability, health and stigma.
