Our Nuya program is geared for weightloss, but along the way we rework our relationship with food. I assign weekly (optional homework) to help on this journey. If you are interested in enrolling in this program, please contact our office at www.familymd.com
Here is an example of the homework.
Nuya homework this week is to experience Mindful eating:
Thich Nhat Hanh was a Buddhist monk who coined the phrase "when you eat the orange, eat the orange." It emphasizes fully experiencing the present moment while engaging in a simple act like eating, rather than being distracted by thoughts or worries. This practice encourages appreciating the sensory details of the orange and being fully present in the experience.
The practice involves:
1. Peeling the orange:
Paying attention to the feel of the peel, its texture, and the sound it makes.
2. Smelling the orange:
Noticing the aroma of the fruit, the citrus scent, and how it changes as you peel.
3. Observing the orange:
Noticing its color, shape, and the way it looks in your hand.
4. Eating the orange:
Paying attention to the taste, texture, and sensation of each segment as you eat it.
5. Being present:
Focusing on the physical sensations and the experience of eating the orange, rather than letting your mind wander.
