I just finished visiting with a repeat client (and now dear friend) of mine who stopped by, and I got to thinking... I think I'm at 100 births supported. I double-checked. And what do you know.. I am! its so special to me to know that Nora was the 100th birth I supported. It's been an incredible several years. I consider it such an honor to walk with people as they transition to becoming parents. My heart is full of gratitude thinking of all the families that have trusted in me to support them on their journey 🥹

Newborn lifestyle photos might be my new favorite moments to capture. Those dark drizzly days when you're nestled in your cave, snuggling and and getting to know your baby... there's just nothing else like it. It's beautiful, hard, exhausting, joyful, tearful, sweet, overwhelming, and the list goes on and on. It's a time of transformation and incredible growth. And it's a time that feels like you're slogging from one never ending day to the next, and then suddenly as if awoken from a dream, you look back and think "how did I get here? How is my baby possibly 6 months old?" And suddenly you feel like you've almost forgotten just how tiny they actually were. This. This is why I love to capture home lifestyle photos. They might be dark and grainy from the lack of bright sunlight that another photographer might be able to utilize when shooting outside in a field. But that doesn't capture what it was really like. What it really felt like to lay with your newborn. To feed them and just stare at them and study their little feature while they sleep in your arms.

To all the parents out there fumbling through the first few weeks of your new life.. remember.. This is just a phase. This will not last forever. Take that how you will, and know that you are doing the best damn job with what you've been given. You've got this.

Long story short... this baby reminded everyone of the importance of "letting go of expectations." And his badass queen of a momma navigated the change of plans and scene with the utmost grace and resilience. , your boys are beyond lucky to have been born into your powerful arms.

Extra love to for providing the most thoughtful and client centered care I've had the opportunity to collaborate with. You're the best.

Who came up with this idea that a partner's only role in the birth of their child is to cut the cord?! Aside from hearing a partner wants to provide comfort support, my heart absolutely swells when I hear partners say they want to catch their babies. We then of course have to have a discussion about how to navigate that conversation in the birthroom with the medical team. We talk about the eye rolling that will ensue and the scare tactics that will probably be flung around as soon as they mention its in their birth plan. This guy though.. he knew right from the get go that he didn't care what sort of garbage he'd have to wade through. Afterall, it was his 👏 damn👏 baby👏

"Doulas have been quietly filling in the gaps of the maternity care system for years and years. Now we have a crisis and the same system that doulas have been making up for, the first chance it got, was like, we still don’t know what you do and we still don’t appreciate you. So all of those gaps that doulas were filling are back.”
