You may have seen the news that the CDC no longer recommends Covid vaccines for pregnant patients (or healthy children). This does NOT mean that the vaccine has been found to be unsafe for pregnant patients! It only means that the CDC feels that pregnant patients do not especially need the vaccine. However, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists continues to recommend the vaccine during pregnancy, as we know that during pregnancy the immune system is suppressed so what might be a simple viral infection for another person can be catastrophic during pregnancy!

If you have questions or are unsure about vaccines in pregnancy, please ask your provider at your next appointment!

Anyway, here's some really exciting news! If you are pregnant and due between October and February you should consider getting the RSV vaccine between 32 and 36 weeks.

In summary: despite 2024-2025 being a much more severe RSV season than the comparison (2018-2020, pre-Covid), there was a 43% reduction in hospitalizations for the disease in infants 0-7 months old.
