HEALTHY DINNER IDEA: EASY BEEF & BROCCOLI BOWLS🥦🥩⁣

this healthier version of a classic take-out favorite makes the perfect weeknight dinner & can be made it less than 15 minutes💃🏼⁣

MAKE IT👩🏼‍🍳⁣
1️⃣ Prep the beef - cut a 1lb flank steak into thin 1/4 inch thick strips (cut perpendicular to the muscle fibers) & cook in a saute pan over medium heat until just cooked through (~5 minutes)⁣

2️⃣ Prep the broccoli - steam 3-4 cups broccoli (I microwave in a bowl with water for ~2 minutes)⁣

3️⃣ Prep the sauce - in a saucepan over low heat, combine the following to make the sauce⁣
↠ 2 tbsp sesame oil⁣
↠ 1/3 cup soy sauce ⁣
↠ 4- 5 cloves crushed garlic ⁣
↠ 1 tbsp crushed ginger (I use trader joes frozen ginger & do about 3 cubes)⁣
↠ 2 tbsp coconut sugar (sub monk fruit sugar to make sugar-free)⁣
↠ 1/2 tbsp tapioca flour (add last to thicken) ⁣

4️⃣ Top with sesame seeds & serve over rice or enjoy on its own! ⁣

I know, it’s a bummer. but this is why caring for that sensitive skin & keeping it out of the sun’s damaging UV rays is SO important🙏🏼☀️

I’ve been taking my eye protection seriously this summer with full-coverage 100% UVA / UVB protection sunnies thanks to  😎

on top of wanting to avoid premature aging, I also suffer from melasma, which is hormonal hyperpigmentation that’s triggered by the sun - I get melasma the worst around my eyes, so these oversized (but so cute) frames are my summer go-tos🙌🏼

BRIDES TO BE & MARRIED LADIES - did you change up your exercise routine leading up to your wedding?💭👰🏼‍♀️⁣

it’s no secret that brides can feel a lot of pressure leading up to their wedding. I mean, I know I want to look & feel my absolute best on the big day💁🏼‍♀️⁣

and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that! AS LONG AS that motivation is coming from you wanting to feel good for YOU (not any societal pressure to look a certain way🙅🏼‍♀️) AND you go about it in a healthy, sustainable way🤍⁣

right now my plan is to incorporate boxing for HIIT & cardio (and hopefully some 💪🏼) and the mix in the low-impact, lengthening workouts I already love like , & yoga ⁣🤸🏼‍♀️

plus of course keep focusing on my nutrition with real whole-foods, quality protein, healthy fats & lots of veggies🥑🥦🥩🐟🍳but still enjoy all the fun that comes with being engaged🥂⁣

the combo of matcha + vanilla collagen is DELICIOUS & gives you the perfect caffeine boost for the morning or for a pre-workout shake💪🏼⁣

VANILLA MATCHA COLLAGEN SMOOTHIE🍵🌱⁣
paleo / keto-friendly ⁣

combine the following & blend!⁣

↠ 1-2 cups spinach 🥬⁣
↠ 2 scoops vanilla protein (I used collagen)⁣
↠ 2 tbsp chia seeds + 1 tbsp flax, soaked in 3/4 cup almond milk ⁣
↠ 1 packet matcha (code ELYSEWELLNESS for 10% off) 🍵⁣
↠ few drops liquid stevia + pinch of salt ⁣

i’m fortunate to say it had been YEARS since I had any issues with SIBO, but last weekend (at the worst timing in Tahoe) I got debilitating stomach pains that took me out for the night⁣😞

if you’re part of the sensitive stomach squad🙋🏼‍♀️(as A LOT of women are), you know how much it can affect your quality of life, so here are my top tips for handling it - any you guys would add?⁣

TIPS FOR DEALING W GI FLARE UPS⁣

1️⃣ STICK TO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU⁣

and DON’T feel bad about it - no one has to live in your body but you, so never feel bad about the food choices you make for your health💯⁣

my recent gut flare up was likely a result of me getting wayyy too casual about my dietary restrictions, and eating foods I KNOW my body doesn’t tolerate - like gluten & dairy😔⁣

it was fun being able to eat the desserts at group dinners, but I’ve realized the symptoms I get after are never worth it for me⁣

2️⃣ GO BACK TO BASICS⁣

if it feels like your gut is made at you, it’s likely inflamed - help it calm down by incorporating gut-friendly foods like bone broth, mint & ginger tea, fully cooked (not raw) vegetables, & easy to digest foods like soups or smoothies🍲⁣

stress management is also hugely important here! ⁣

3️⃣ HAVE YOUR TOOLKIT READY⁣

know what you’re symptom-relief fixes are, and keep them handy⁣

Iberogast bitters work wonders for me, and I never travel without ginger & magnesium supplements 💊⁣

4️⃣ RE-TEST WHEN NECESSARY⁣

I’ve dealt with SIBO long enough to be able to recognize my symptoms & self-treat when needed, but if you have new symptoms or have never gotten a clear diagnosis, work with a doctor (ideally a functional MD or naturopath) to run tests👩🏼‍⚕️this is key to make sure you’re addressing the ROOT CAUSE👌🏼⁣

citrusy salmon + creamy cauliflower rice = heaven⁣

recipe for the ginger lime salmon below & head to the blog for the best keto-friendly coconut cauliflower rice recipe🙌🏼⁣

what’s your favorite way to eat salmon?🐟⁣

GINGER LIME MARINADE⁣
*makes enough for 2 salmon filets*⁣

↠ 3 tbsp olive oil⁣
↠ juice of 1 & 1/2 lime⁣
↠ 1 tsp black pepper, salt, garlic powder⁣
↠ 1/2 tsp ground ginger⁣
↠ zest of 1/2 lime peel ⁣
↠ zest of 1/2 chunk fresh ginger⁣

in a large shallow container, place salmon filets skin side up in the 3/4 marinade for 20-30 minutes - save the other 1/4 to top the salmon once cooked!⁣

cook your salmon! pan sear starting skin-side up for ~3 minutes each side, depending on how well-done you like your salmon. as your cooking, baste extra marinade on top of the salmon in the pan⁣

so I did a little experiment this month, and man was it a success💃🏼⁣

AVOCADO CILANTRO LIME SAUCE 🥑⁣

if you’re looking for an easy way to make your quarantine meals a little more exciting, this is it💃🏼 it also just feels like SUMMER in a sauce, and who doesn’t want that?⁣

this sauce is creamy, citrusy & tangy, making AMAZING on fish - i’ve had it & loved it on salmon & shrimp tacos 🍤 🌮 ⁣

it’s also perfect on a taco salad 🥗 ⁣

and aside from just being delicious - cilantro is anti-inflammatory & helps the body detox heavy metals👌🏼⁣

About Elyse Wellness

Hi – I’m Amanda, and I started Elyse Wellness as a way to share everything I’m exploring, experimenting with, and learning in the area of nutrition and wellness.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been passionate about nutrition and health, but always found the health and wellness space to be so overwhelming. From fad diets, to conflicting advice all over the internet, it’s really freaking hard to figure out what actually works. And I’ve spent the last 10 years of my life informally trying to do just that. I’ve experimented with it all from vegetarianism and veganism, to macro-counting and calorie-counting, to paleo and ketogenic diets. And after years of trial and error, and spending an ungodly amount of my free time reading nutrition studies and diet books, trying to figure out what actually works, I’m finally in a place where things feel easy. My approach to eating, working out, and living makes looking and feeling how I want, easy.

At Elyse Wellness, you’ll find easy, practical tips for improving your health that actually work, based on experiments by real girls, and the latest science.
