What do you do to cherish this time? Pregnancy is such a blend of magical and completely miserable. LOL! As a mom of 4, I have pregnancy and birth stories for DAYS, but the best thing was journaling and taking TONS of pictures. If you are expecting or you know a mom who is, take pictures! Take videos of the foot that jabs your belly button. Document the inch of space between your belly and the steering wheel of your car. Enjoy the WOW moments and write about it because it will amaze you later what you accomplished and, , what you survived!

As I look around the birth work businesses and mental health practices, especially within the Black and Brown business communities, I see a gap. This moment in history has given us one powerful gift:
The return of seeing WRONG and speaking out about it.

We have had decades of respectability politics and “be nice” culture. Micro-aggressions were just us being “too sensitive” or “paranoid”, so it was somehow bad for us to speak out on it, but now we see that the problem was never that.

The problem was generations upon generation of unchecked and unrepentant r@ce-related trauma, bias, and abuse of our communities.

They have just validated to everyone the reality we already knew.

Our nation was built on pain, greed, and violence.

As we decide the direction we intend to take moving forward, just remember:

Pain begets pain.
Or “Hurt people hurt people.”

Not in the typical churchy “be nice” way. Just prioritize HEALING so your actions are clear-headed, strategic, and focused. Because acting in anger hurts everyone.

And we need to be at our best.
