I am beyond proud of . Not only is she my colleague but one of my best friends for over 10 years. I’ve been lucky enough to work along side her for the past 4+ years, develop a FEES program together and mentor her in FEES. Yesterday she completed the final piece of competency with ENT observation and signature of competency. She rocked it! Congrats Stacy! 💚💚💚

Are there pets at the nursing facilities that you work at? This one has pretty birds and a sweet cat that roams freely. Didn’t catch a picture of him this time but I love watching the birds.

My friend Danni Welch Slp is not only an amazing SLP but has also cared for her mother for the last year who suffered a stroke which resulted in Aphasia. She has written this amazing blog post for caregivers of people with aphasia. She has also created a group for Caregiver support. This could be an amazing resource for SLPs, patients and families. Check it out!

This is my first entry of my blog, intended to use what has happened to my mother, combined with my experiences as a Speech Language Pathologist to help others who are recovering from illnesses/ injuries and the caregivers that are helping them. I wanted to write this to help not just my mom, Esta,....

Biofeedback is so helpful!!!

This pt was POD 12 s/p ACDF. They were readmitted to the hospital due to dysphagia and poor PO intake. The pt reported odynophagia, “choking” and phagophobia.

Once we had the visual we realized that she was having mild R vallecular residue due to residual edema of the R lateral and posterior pharyngeal wall. It happened every time she swallowed solids or a pill.

Once the patient was able to SEE that she wasn’t choking, SEE where the food was getting stuck and SEE the strategies being effective, she wasn’t as fearful of swallowing anymore. She was so excited to eat and did so with much more ease and confidence.

How have you seen FEES be useful as biofeedback?
