Why Supporting Children’s Mental Health Starts with Addressing Trauma
-
May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a reminder that mental wellness begins early in life.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are highly stressful or traumatic events that occur during childhood and can significantly impact a young person’s emotional, physical, and psychological development.

•More than 60% of children in the U.S. experience at least one ACE.

•Youth with 4 or more ACEs are:• 3x more likely to suffer from depression • 2–4x more likely to begin using alcohol or drugs during adolescence• 12x more likely to attempt su***de

•Up to 78% of teens in substance use treatment have a history of trauma.

When we fail to address the effects of trauma early, it can lead to lasting struggles with mental health and substance use.
But this cycle isn’t inevitable—it can be broken!
With early mental health support, trauma-informed care, and safe, supportive environments, we can help children heal and thrive.

Today is National Fentanyl Awareness Day, a day to unite and take action to protect young lives from deadly fentanyl and fake prescription pills.

Recent data shows progress in reducing overdose deaths from record highs. And still, nearly half of teens still don't know that counterfeit prescription pills often contain lethal amounts of fentanyl. This lack of knowledge is leads to tragic consequences—young people are dying simply because they didn't know the pill they took was fake.

JOIN US and Placer County District Attorney's Office for the final One Pill Can Kill Placer PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT on May 8th - 5:30 at Lincoln High School Western Placer Unified School District. Learn more and help raise awareness.

Today, we join communities across the country in recognizing National Fentanyl Awareness Day — A day to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and take action to prevent fentanyl-related tragedies.
Fentanyl is now the leading cause of overdose deaths in the U.S., and too often, people are unaware of its presence in counterfeit pills and street drugs.
At Granite Wellness Centers, we are committed to saving lives through prevention, treatment, education, and harm reduction.
We distribute naloxone (Narcan), fentanyl test strips, and provide compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals and families impacted by substance use.
🛑 One pill can kill — but knowledge saves lives.
