🧠💪 Why the Longissimus Muscle Matters for Your Horse’s Performance and Comfort 🐴✨

Have you ever wondered why your horse might seem stiff, resistant, or uncomfortable under saddle? One of the most important — and often overworked — muscles in a horse’s body is the longissimus dorsi.

🔹 It’s the main muscle running along the horse’s spine — from the pelvis to the neck.
🔹 It plays a HUGE role in movement, especially in back engagement, collection, and topline strength.
🔹 This muscle absorbs a lot of tension from work, saddle pressure, and rider imbalance.

When tight or sore, the longissimus can lead to:
⚠️ Resistance to bending
⚠️ Shortened stride
⚠️ Difficulty picking up leads or engaging the hind end
⚠️ Sensitivity to grooming or tack

That’s why massage therapy is so beneficial! Techniques like targeted soft tissue release, cold laser therapy, cupping, Kinesiology Taping, TENS/EMS, and stretching can help relieve tightness, improve blood flow, and support your horse’s range of motion.
