I started a new job and I have my very own office. Here’s why that’s such a big deal. My grandma and so many others like her used to, and in many cases still do, clean offices like this. Moments like this make me think of the dreams and hopes carried by people in service jobs that at times go unnoticed and how much of my own journey is rooted in their sacrifice and resilience. It also reminds me that although I grew up low income, I also grew up with aspirational capital that allowed me to believe I could be the first generation college graduate, content creator, business owner, and communications and marketing professional I am today.
