The intention of yoga at Shree is to uplift the mind and spirit while strengthening and stretching the body. In our classes, you will learn an elegant method of alignment, including energy loops and spirals and biomechanical principles. This method enhances body awareness and creates increased balance, strength, and flexibility while keeping students safe and reducing risk of injury. We offer a wide range of classes to suit different needs and learning styles. Our full service yoga studio has a beautiful hardwood floor and an east-facing wall of windows which overlooks a lovely courtyard with benches, and ducks swimming on the Saddle River beyond. It is peaceful and conducive to the experience of harmony and balance that comes from a good yoga practice.

🎉 Our Yoga + Henna Parties are a hit! 🎉

This is what one participant had to say after recently attending a party at Shree:

"Dear Rachel,
I honestly can't thank you enough, it was such a meaningful evening for us and especially the birthday girls. We have been friends for over 20 yrs so we have seen each other through a lot. The words you chose at the beginning of the session were just so on point and truly resonated with all of us. We talked about it in the car, during dinner and still this morning. Honestly it was like you knew us all.
Again thank you so much for lovely evening!"

📆 Book your next special event with us - we offer Yoga Parties, Henna Parties, and our most popular Yoga+Henna Party.

Shree Book Club: There Are Rivers in the Sky
by Elif Shfak. Sunday, March 8 3:30 ~ 5:30 pm
Free and open to all. Read the book and bring a cup of tea to sip while we discuss.

In the ancient city of Nineveh, on the bank of the River Tigris, King Ashurbanipal of Mesopotamia, erudite but ruthless, built a great library that would crumble with the end of his reign. From its ruins, however, emerged a poem, the Epic of Gilgamesh, that would infuse the existence of two rivers and bind together three lives.

In 1840 London, Arthur is born beside the stinking, sewage-filled River Thames. With an abusive, alcoholic father and a mentally ill mother, Arthur’s only chance of escaping destitution is his brilliant memory. When his gift earns him a spot as an apprentice at a leading publisher, Arthur’s world opens up far beyond the slums, and one book in particular catches his interest: Nineveh and Its Remains.

In 2014 Turkey, Narin, a ten-year-old Yazidi girl, is diagnosed with a rare disorder that will soon cause her to go deaf. Before that happens, her grandmother is determined to baptize her in a sacred Iraqi temple. But with the rising presence of ISIS and the destruction of the family’s ancestral lands along the Tigris, Narin is running out of time.

In 2018 London, the newly divorced Zaleekah, a hydrologist, moves into a houseboat on the Thames to escape her husband. Orphaned and raised by her wealthy uncle, Zaleekah had made the decision to take her own life in one month, until a curious book about her homeland changes everything.

A dazzling feat of storytelling, There Are Rivers in the Sky entwines these outsiders with a single drop of water, a drop which remanifests across the centuries. Both a source of life and harbinger of death, rivers—the Tigris and the Thames—transcend history, transcend fate: “Water remembers. It is humans who forget.”

Functional Strength for Life Starts Here

The 30-Second Sit-to-Stand Test is a global benchmark used to assess mobility, leg strength, balance, and long-term independence. While it measures how many times someone can stand from a chair in 30 seconds, the real story isn’t the number — it’s what strong results represent: resilience, stability, and the ability to move through life with confidence.

In a recent Shree chair yoga class, students ages 42, 62, 77, 79, and 80+ all exceeded international averages for their age group — a reminder of what research consistently shows: people who practice yoga tend to excel at this test because yoga strengthens posture, core stability, breath control, balance, and the functional movements we rely on most.

Find out more: www.shreeyoga.com
Most importantly, you do not need to achieve any specific number — or take this test at all — to join our classes. This is simply one example of what we do. In all of our classes, we specialize in teaching how to move better using safe alignment and smart muscular engagement. Our focus is the bigger picture: building strength, reducing pain, supporting bone and joint health, improving balance, boosting sleep, easing stress, and restoring overall well-being.

January is a powerful time to begin again — not to chase perfection, but to create a body that feels steadier, stronger, and more at ease in everyday life. And because yoga’s deeper purpose is this: to connect with our bodies, our hearts, and ourselves — fully, kindly, and in all the ways that matter.
