Miryam Nkashama is 9 year old American young girl born in Fort Worth, Texas from the immigrant parents from Democratic Republic of Congo. She lives in DFW area in Saginaw, TX . In August 2012 in the mood of back to school, Miryam started getting sick complaining some pain in the stomach and having bloody diarrhea. She went to school the first and second days of back to school and her conditions started to worsen, she was admitted at Cook Children’s Hospital on 8/29/2012 and spend 33 days at the hospital. On 8/31/2012, she was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, a form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), a chronic disease affecting the intestines which cause inflammations, ulcers and bleeding in the lining of the colon and rectum. She is experiencing bloody diarrhea, severe abdominal cramping pain, rectal bleeding, anemia, weight loss, fatigue, weakness, nausea and sometime fever. These symptoms may worsen in an unpredictable manner and medications can only help manage the discomfort and inflammation, but they are no cures for IBD. The treatment include immune-suppressant drugs that render her more susceptible to illness and intensify reduction in neurocognitive functioning.
