📱 EMFs & Screen Time: The Hidden Impact on Our Kids' Health 🌐

As if we needed another reason to limit screen time, consider the potential effects of EMFs (Electromagnetic Fields) on our children. Growing up in this digital age, today’s kids are exposed to levels of wireless radiation that simply didn’t exist for previous generations. 📡

While screens have transformed communication and technology, the long-term health effects of wireless radiation remain a concern. Devices like phones, tablets, and Wi-Fi routers emit microwave radiation, which may have non-thermal effects on our kids' developing bodies. Studies suggest links between EMFs and potential issues like:
- Developmental delays 🧠
- Reproductive health concerns 👶
- Increased risk of chronic illnesses 😟

And the American Academy of Pediatrics advises limiting screen time, especially for children under 2, yet many kids are exposed to screens daily—sometimes for hours at a time. This constant exposure may contribute to bonding issues, addiction-like behaviors, and a range of developmental concerns.

What Can We Do?
💡 Limit screen time as much as possible and encourage outdoor play and physical activities.
💡 Turn off Wi-Fi and electronic devices at night.
💡 Avoid using tablets/phones on laps and use hands-free options when possible.

It’s important to be aware of these potential risks as we navigate the digital world with our kids. Limiting their exposure to EMFs and balancing screen time with healthier habits can support their overall well-being. 🌿

👶🍽️ Picky Eating 101: Part One - Helping Your Child Explore Flavors!

Picky eating is something many parents encounter, especially during those toddler years. Today, we've got some tips to help you navigate this phase and expand your child's palate! 🌈👏

🥦 Baby-Led Weaning: Start Early! 🍼
We LOVE baby-led weaning at All Around Pediatrics! Introduce various textures and flavors as early as six months. Encouraging exploration from the get-go can reduce picky eating tendencies down the road. 🍎🥕

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 One Meal for All! 🍽️
Avoid making a separate meal for your child. When they realize the family is enjoying the same food, they're more likely to join in. 🥦👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

🍽️ Mix It Up: Offer Familiar and New Foods! 🍲
Present foods you know they love alongside some new options. It's okay if they take a bite and say, "No, thank you." Taste preferences can change over time, so encourage trying again. 🔄👅

👩‍🍳 Cooking Together: A Fun Adventure! 🍳
Get your kids involved in the kitchen. Let them help prepare a dish. Sometimes, the excitement of cooking can make them more willing to try what they've created.

🍯 Dip It: Explore with Sauces! 🍗
Sauces and dips can make veggies or meat more appealing. Experiment with different flavors to make mealtime an adventure.

Each and every one of our kiddos are unique, and it's okay for them to have their preferences! Stay tuned for Part Two, where we'll dive deeper into helping your child overcome picky eating habits. 🍽️✨

❄️ Puffy coats may be warm, but they are not safe in car seats or booster seats! 🚫

❓ What makes it unsafe? ❓

🔹 For your child’s car seat to offer the maximum protection in a crash, the harness or seat belt needs to be as close to the child as possible. The more layers of padding or clothing between a child and the harness, the harder it is to properly fit the restraint to the child.

🔹 The harness can end up fitting to the thick coat, and in the event of a crash, all that extra air is forced out between the layers, leaving the harness too loose to protect a child. A loose harness, at best, means extra crash time on the child, and at worst, could mean ejection from the seat. This principle also applies to children riding in boosters and adults in seat belts.

🧥 So, what's the alternative? There are many ways to safely and warmly transport children in car seats during the winter. As long as you don't introduce extra slack under the harness or seat belt, kids can stay safe and warm all winter long. 🌬️❤️

Let's prioritize safety without compromising on warmth this winter season! 🚗👶

Following a Paleo Diet is often part of our care plan when you're working with our functional nutritionists. 🥩 It prioritizes eating real, whole, nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds.

A Paleo Diet restricts or eliminates sugars, unhealthy fats, chemical additives, and common problem foods like dairy, gluten, and soy. 🚫
☑️ Following a Paleo Diet can help:
🔸Control inflammation
🔸Balance blood sugar
🔸Reduce carbs and increase probiotics
🔸Weight loss
🔸Balance metabolism

👍 When eating a Paleo diet, prioritize lean proteins like grass-fed meats and wild-caught fish, fresh veggies, fresh fruits, pastured eggs, nuts and seeds, healthy fats like olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, beef tallow, and ghee. 🥦 Choose organic when possible, but prioritize eating whole, nutrient-dense, healthy foods and if you can't afford organic, that's ok!

👎 Avoid grains, beans, legumes, lentils, processed foods, dairy, most vegetable oils, artificial sweeteners, colors, and flavors.

🥑 Every(body) is different and what works for one person may not work for another. Try changing your diet or eliminating certain inflammatory foods for 2-4 weeks and see how you feel! 👩‍⚕️ Consider working with a functional nutritionist to help guide you towards your individual needs and goals based on what your body needs.
☺️ When trying to be healthier and eat healthier, everyone can take guidance from the info we've shared here, whether you follow a specific "diet" or not! Learn to read labels and be an informed consumer in order to live well, eat well, and be the healthiest and happiest you can be by making informed choices!

👉 The truth is, there is no exact answer as each child has their own developmental pace. However, there are certain signs that may indicate your child is ready to start toilet training, such as the ability to stay dry for at least two consecutive hours, showing interest in using the toilet, and communicating when they need to go.

👶 Generally, this process can occur between 18 months and 3 years of age. But it's important to remember not to force the child to leave diapers as it can cause frustration and delay the process. Instead, it's important to be patient and provide support and encouragement when the child succeeds, and comfort during accidents.

If you find yourself reaching for a diet soda to get you over the afternoon hump, it might be time to ditch that habit for good! 🚫

Most of us have known that soda isn't *good* for us, but the new proposed declaration from the WHO is bringing publicity to just how *bad* one common ingredient could be for human health. 🤢

Aspartame is a popular artificial sweetener used in place of sugar in diet sodas, Extra chewing gum, some Snapple teas, Crystal Light drink mixes, sugar-free Jello, and other "no/low calorie" foods and beverages. It is also the sweetener used in packets of Equal and Nutrasweet.

☠️ The move to classify aspartame as possibly carcinogenic means the agency is saying that, based on all the available evidence, the sweetener could cause cancer — though the agency didn't say how likely it is, nor does it define the quantity of aspartame one has to consume to be at risk, Reuters reported.

Last year, a study by The National Cancer Institute comprised of almost 103,000 adults, found that those who consumed higher amounts of aspartame had a slightly higher risk (1.15 times) of developing cancer, especially breast and obesity-related cancers.

👉 Bottom line:
Enjoying an occasional soda isn't going to kill you, but besides the sweeteners there are a host of other reasons not to make it a habit. 👎
Regularly consuming either diet soda or regular soda is not a good idea for your overall health.

💧 Reach for regular water instead, or sparkling water infused with fruits or fruit juice. 🍊 Zevia, Ollipop, and Spindrift are a few *better, not perfect* options for your sweet fizz fix on the go.

👶 The use of pacifiers in babies is a topic that can generate different opinions among parents. Some believe it can provide comfort and soothe the baby, but it is important to consider that prolonged and excessive use can have negative repercussions on dental development and teeth alignment. Additionally, it can increase the risk of ear infections and speech difficulties 😥

👉 For this reason, it is recommended to limit the use of pacifiers and start gradually weaning from them around 6 months of age. It is also important to avoid using them during sleep and encourage other soothing and relaxation techniques, such as stuffed animals or proper sleep routines.

🧑‍⚕️ At All Around Pediatrics, we understand that every baby is unique and special. That's why we invite you to schedule a consultation with our specialists who can provide specific guidance on pacifier use and when and how to properly wean, ensuring the healthy development of your baby

Yes, it is very important to maintain good oral hygiene from the time your baby's first teeth start to emerge! We recommend using a soft-bristled brush and water, or simply a soft damp cloth, to clean their gums and teeth after meals and before bedtime. As your little one grows, you can start using age-appropriate toothpaste with low fluoride content, always under supervision.
