🦠Covid: Update 5/19/22
Unfortunately the incidence of Covid has doubled in the last month. So when possible please do the below precautions when at risk (unavoidably near others):
1- 😷 Always wear mask above and tightly around the nose and under the chin! Adjust mask not touching where you breathe - grab straps or sides of mask. Wearing two 2-3 masks has proven to be statistically more effective than one mask. The thicker and denser the mask the better.
Now that things are opening up, and mask requirements have been reduced I have been asked should people still wear them? Bottom line is it is better to be safe than sorry. Even if you have had the vaccine or actually had Covid you could be susceptible to the mutant variant Covid virus.☝🏽
👀The virus can also get into your body through your eyes. Try to wear glasses, gargles, and a plastic shield around your face and eyes when appropriate. 🦸🏼‍♀️🥽
2- Keep physical distance 📏
distance more than 6ft when Possible.👥❌
When moving up to next line in a store do not stand exactly where other person was- 🚷 go few feet to right or left of line-👣-To avoid same breathing space🗣, Open windows as much as possible, Cough/sneeze into your elbow always 💪
3-Disinfect! Wear🧤! A large majority of infections come from hand to face transmission. So if you touch a pen, door k**b, someone’s hand, thermometer, and then touch your face you can contract the virus. Disinfect your hands frequently. Do not touch your face unless you disinfect your 🤗 hands.
4-Vitamins D, zinc, C, quercetin
5-healthy lifestyle-rest, sufficient sleep, exercise, water, & nutritious diet. Mortality rate is approximately 50% higher for obese patients that have Covid!
6-Signs and symptoms of the coronavirus are cough, decrease smell and taste, sore throat, fever, malaise, shortness of breath, aches, and pains.🤢 Call your doctor ASAP!
7-If you have the corona virus infection, and are short of breath go to the hospital‼️ 🏨
8-If you have the virus and need pain medicine Tylenol 💊 is preferred over Advil.
9-always keep your physician informed.☝🏼
New antiviral medicines are available, as per your physician. Some patients are requesting ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine. Discuss with your physician what medicines would be appropriate for your situation. 😌
10-If you have any questions, comments, please call 631-361-6160🌈

02/23/2022

Through the years I have found that the most common heavy-metal above the normal range in a blood test is aluminum. Lead is very rare since it is no longer in gasoline or paint. Mercury would be the second most common heavy metal in that can build up in humans. We are living in the what some call 'the aluminum age'. Aluminum can be in Underarm Deodorants, pots & pans, food foil, and many other daily items most people come in contact with.

Aluminum conducts heat quickly and is quite sturdy which is why it is widely used in pots & pans. However, when heated up, aluminum can react with acidic foods like tomatoes and vinegar. This reaction can make the food toxic and might also lead to stomach troubles and nausea.

Signs and symptoms of aluminum toxicity are:
Seizure
Slow growth in children
Confusion
Muscle weakness
Bone pain, boney deformities, and fractures
Speech problems
Some studies indicate it may even cause dementia.

Findings from an aluminum level blood test are unreliable, as most of the body's stores are bound in bone and tissue, and are not reflected in the serum value. This is why when getting an aluminum blood level you should do what’s called a challenge or provocation test. You take chelating agents; which help get it out of your body tissues into the blood so you can measure the aluminum burden accurately.

If you aluminum level as well as other heavy metals are above normal they should be removed by chelation therapy either orally or IV.

Please contact my office at 631-361-6160 if you're interested in hearing more about this treatment.

Men’s health
It has been my experience that most men do you not take care of themselves as much as women. Some men go many years without a physical examination or blood testing. The best wealth is health! It does take some effort two I have optimal health. If you were to go to the University of Google and look up the word happiness the number one thing to be happy is health!
The pillars of health apply to both men and women. This includes A healthy diet leaning towards vegetarianism. Never over eating or eating late at night. Excessive weight can cause many ills. Most people realize that excessive weight can cause hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, heart attacks, & diabetes. Obesity can also increase dementia, knee and back disorders, and cancers!
Exercise decreases heart and lung aging and dementia by approximately 50%. Exercise is extremely important to maintain health and vitality. It should be done on a regular basis and in an enjoyable fashion. Both aerobic (🚴🏽🚣🏽‍♂️🏌🏽‍♂️🏊🏼‍♀️🏀🏸🏃🏾‍♀️), and anaerobic ( 💪🏽resistance 🏋🏼‍♀️)exercise should be done. Other forms of exercise such as balance, stretching, and brain 🧠 exercise are also very important. Proper sleep rest, and stress control are also part of the equation of being healthy.
Regular physical exams and blood 🩸testing should be done on a at least a yearly basis! Extensive blood testing would also be advantageous. Meaning heavy metals such as aluminum, mercury, lead. Hormonal Testing such as total and free testosterone, estrogen, and DHEA.
Inflammatory markers should also be obtained since inflammation can cause many physical ailments including cancer, joint problems, strokes and heart attacks.
Prostate examination and blood test ( PSA ) should be done yearly; since prostate cancer is quite common. As with all cancers the earlier you catch it the more likely you will survive, and not have to undergo brutal treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation and major surgery. Prevention is much better than treatment!☝🏼

Exercise 🚴🏽🏊🏼🏋🏼‍♀️⛹🏽‍♂️🏄🏼🏌🏽‍♂️
Is there a minimum amount of daily physical activity that still provides health benefits? The answer is yes. Although the health benefits of following these guidelines are well established, what about Americans who exercise but don’t meet the 150-minute-per-week recommendation?

Minutes of exercise per day can add years to life. In a recent study published in The Lancet, researchers in Taiwan grouped over 400,000 study participants into one of five categories of exercise volume: 😴inactive, 🧎🏼low, 🚴‍♂️medium, ⛹🏼‍♀️high, and 🏃‍♀️very high activity. The researchers compared each group with the inactive group, and then calculated each group’s mortality risks and life expectancy.
Comparing those in the inactive group (who exercised less than 60 minutes per week), people in the low-volume group exercised for approximately 92 minutes per week. This equates to 15 minutes of exercise every day. This group had a 3-year longer life expectancy and a 14% decreased risk for all-cause mortality than the inactive group. These benefits extended to all age groups, sexes, and to those with cardiovascular disease risks.
Only 🕘15 minutes per day of moderate-intensity exercise can have health benefits. Furthermore, the researchers found that every additional 15 minutes of exercise beyond the minimum 15 minutes per day lead to a reduction in general mortality by 4% and a decrease in cancer-related mortality by 1%.
On the other hand: “Individuals who were inactive had a 17% increased risk of mortality compared with individuals in the low-volume group”!
“The American Society of Clinical Oncology the seventh edition” that just came out a few weeks ago, on page 238 states that there was a study that revealed moderate (when it is difficult to talk) exercise (2 to 3 hours/week) has been reported to the reduce breast cancer reoccurrence, and all cause mortality rates approximately 40 to 67%!
Another study cited revealed recreational exercise can reduce the incidence of breast cancer 20 to 30% primarily among pre-menopausal women!
There also has been studies showing that regular exercise decreases dementia, and other illnesses. Once again exercise has a huge benefit!
The most common excuse not to exercise is “no time”. If you don’t take care of yourself no one else will☝🏼! You have to make some time to take care of yourself. The best wealth is health. In fact the most important thing for happiness is your health. Please go to the University of Google, and Google the word health and you will see this stated. 😌

What is your Favorite form of exercise?

The weather has been beautiful🌞, but the dark side of the sun is melanoma🌘

The most common cancer is skin cancer. From the least to the worst is basal cell, squamous, and the most malignant melanoma. Melanoma is the most aggressive since it can travel two other body parts known as metastasis.
Do not get sunburned! It has been shown that the prior burn areas are more likely to create skin cancer. Try to find natural sun blockers, and use them liberally. Limit your sun exposure, do not stay for prolonged periods in bright sunlight.
Everyone has an individual tolerance to the sun. If you are fair skinned: shorter periods of time in the sun as compared to more melanated skin that can tolerate the sun without getting a sunburn. Wear hats and shirts when possible. It is also important to be well hydrated while out in the sun.
Everyone should be checked by a dermatologist head to toe yearly to make sure nothing suspicious is going on unchecked. An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure! If you catch cancer at an early stage whether it’s breast, skin, colon they are usually curable. Will not have to go through horrific treatments such as major surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy. Be safe and remember to protect yourself against the sun.

What method are you using to prevent sunburn this summer?

Cancer is defined by cell cycle deregulation and uncontrolled growth. It is the second leading cause of death in the world. In the United States alone there were 1,658,370 new cancer cases diagnosed and 589,430 cancer deaths and an estimated 750,000 deaths in Europe. We are fighting a losing battle....

Eat your whites!

All vegetables are good for you, but different varieties can have different health benefits. Cauliflower, for instance, is one of very few white foods I condone in a healthy diet. As a cruciferous vegetable, it contains sulforaphane and glucosinolates, which are associated with the breakdown of harmful compounds when consumed semi-regularly. These have been shown to have anti-cancerous traits over time.

Other cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, kale, and Brussels sprouts for some added variety.

Mediterranean Meal Plan: Week 1

It may not be the fountain of youth, but the Mediterranean diet has been getting a lot of press lately for increasing longevity. Recent studies show that staying with the diet can increase your lifespan up to 4.5 years. More specifically it can alter your DNA as it leads to longer telomeres, which are protective structures found on the ends of chromosomes. Shorter telomeres are associated with decreased longevity, and chronic diseases.

So why not give the a try, and take advantage of its benefits? Let's be honest- the food included in the Mediterranean diet is delicious and much less limiting than other diets. Read on for a Mediterranean diet-friendly menu to help you get started.

Get going and celebrate summer Mediterranean style!

Wheatgrass packs a lot of punch from a small amount. A young form of wheat, it has been noted for it's anti-cancer properties, as well as its abundance of Protease (for protein digestion), Cytochrome Oxidase (an anti oxidant), and Amylase (aids digestion). That said, it seemed time I try it for myself.

Unfortunately, for just one wheatgrass shot you have to juice an entire bed of average size. I found this out the hard way as I watched the green juice crawl out of the juicer. It was a bit anti-climatic. Don't get me wrong- the result was great. Just drinking the shot alone made me feel like a thousand bucks (and my kitchen smelled great!)

Would I try juicing wheatgrass again? Probably not. I'll leave that part to the health food store, but this marks the beginning of a beautiful new relationship!

The American Smokeout may sound like a barbecue, but it's actually an interesting concept developed by the American Cancer Society. Falling on the third Thursday of every November, the ACS invites smokers to set the date to quit smoking. The scheduling is no coincidence as November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

About 1 in 5 adults smokes, increasing his/her likelihood of lung cancer exponentially. Only 1 in 3 smokers quit when diagnosed with cancer. Meanwhile, continued smokers account for just 9% of survivors. This suggests that not only can smoking cause lung cancer, but it can also sabotage attempts at treating it. It also shows people's devotion to the habit.

Not to be cliché, but the decision to smoke is bigger than you or me. About 5 in 5 have to cope with the ramifications of Second Hand Smoke (SHS) on at least a monthly basis. For instance, about 1 million American children have asthmatic breathing problems attributed to SHS.

Your personal habits are your business and yours alone- but second hand smoke isn't. Encourage the loved ones in your life to quit- today!

In America, someone develops Alzheimer's every 67 seconds. To put this in perspective, this is roughly equal to the amount of individuals who have a stroke. That's an impressive number, especially considering that Alzheimer's only accounts for about 60% of dementia.

Today's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month topic: Your body is a well-oiled machine. Would you fill a Ferrari with corrosive materials?

This isn't the 1960's- it goes without saying that smoking is bad for your health. But against common belief, smoking doesn't just lead to lung cancer. Studies show that individuals in better overall health are less likely to fall victim to any type of cancer. Makes sense, right? A body is like a car in some ways- everything is connected, and the stronger it is, the more likely it is to perform as it should. When one part isn't operating properly, it takes a toll on every other part. Further, there is a proven link between the carcinogenic attributes found in ci******es and the development of breast cancer in particular. At the end of the day, why fight with fire- literally?

Today's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month topic: Can a microwave create The Hulk?

You may have heard of gamma radiation from sci-fi movies, but in reality it doesn't turn people into the indestructible incredible Hulk. If that was the case, people would spend more time standing in front of their microwaves, and less time watching TV. What does this have to do with your health? In reality increased exposure to man-made radiation weakens the body instead of hyper-strengthening it. Some treatments involving radiation have been shown to solve a current health problem, while increasing your risk for another. Studies find that radiation increases an individual's risk of cancers, especially breast cancer.

Unfortunately radiation is all around us, but we can try our best to limit it at home. One example is avoiding buying homes in areas surrounding high-tension wires, and limiting microwave use. Most people don't realize how microwaves operate, but they don't actually cook your food as an oven would. Like most quick alternatives microwaves are too good to be true, and expose you to unnecessary radiation while depleting the nutrients in your food. As the name suggests, microwaves use microwave radiation to stimulate the movement of water particles inside your food. This creates friction amongst the particles, increasing the internal temperature of the food. As of now, it appears as if microwaves are only harmful so long as they are on, and radiation does not stay within your home after it is done "cooking". While I would recommend limiting any use to be safe, I would definitely advise you to at least avoid standing close to the microwave while it's giving your food the shake, rattle, and roll.

Breastfeeding | Susan G. Komen®

Today's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month topic: Breastfeeding kills two birds with one stone.

There are many different beliefs and strong opinions abound surrounding breastfeeding- It may not be for everyone. That said, from a medical perspective studies have proved that breastfeeding is good for children, and that the longer a child is breast fed, the higher his/her IQ potential. But what about you? Studies have shown that the discomfort women undergo during this process pays off not just for her child, but also for her. Women who breastfeed for a year, the recommended period of time per child, have a decreased risk of estrogen receptor-positive and estrogen receptor-negative breast cancers. This is even more prevalent in women who nurse more than one child. So next time you're on the fence and potentially having a super baby genius isn't enough, consider this:

Breastfeeding protects against breast cancer (especially premenopausal breast cancer) [11,57-59]. Breastfeeding appears to lower the risk of both and breast cancers [59].
