💙🚑 In Loving Memory of Scott “S***t” DeNinno 🚒❤️

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our SAVAC board member, Scott “S***t” DeNinno. S***t was a lifelong member of the Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Department and a familiar face to many, having responded to hundreds of calls alongside our ambulance crews over the years.

Several years ago, S***t joined the SAVAC Ambulance Board, where his dedication, wisdom, and commitment to serving others continued to shine. His presence, humor, and passion for helping his community will be deeply missed by all of us.

Our hearts are with his family, friends, and his fire department family during this difficult time.
Rest easy, S***t — we’ll take it from here. 💔

How we started....

St. Johnsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps was founded on November 26, 1968. A group of local community members gathered at the St. Johnsville Community House and discussed the need for a volunteer Ambulance Corp. Mayor Angelo Giaquinto presided over the meeting. At this meeting the very first Board of Directors was appointed, consisting of Robert Perry, Joe Green, Frank Christiance, Joe Rider, John Bilobrowka, Carmine Giaquinto and Carlo Polidori.

At the time the local funeral directors would use a hearse to transport the sick and injured to the local hospital.

After several months of hard work, St. Johnsville Volunteer Ambulance opened the “ambulance doors” on January 1, 1969.

They needed to start the engine up quickly as the first “activation” for a call came on January 1, 1969 with an automobile accident at the Old Mill Inn on Rt 5. This Inn no longer stands but the old log books tell us that the first crew to answer the call were J. Bilobrowka, K. Mereness and G. Jubar. The log book indicates that 3 patients were transported to Little Falls Hospital.
