Exploring and rewriting our personal narrative should be as essential to our health and wellbeing as is taking medications.

Intense itching. Blisters. Scratching. Scaring. Restless nights. Chronic fatigue. Embarrassment. Shame. Guilt. All creeping into daily life, coloring choices, tainting relationships, escalating anxiety and depression, and adding to chronic stress and inflammation. This is the story of eczema (also c...

When doctors become patients...this doctor shares how hard yet vital it is to engage as a partner in your own health care by having your story heard and valued.

“…I had to go out of my way to get many physicians to give me as much attention as I felt my illness deserved.” “So, I got excellent medical care, but only because I was a partner in that care.” “…I just appreciate the opportunity to tell my story, which for me, the opportunity to talk...

Through the Journey Guide experience, I was able to reframe and heal my relationship with a recent fibroid diagnosis. Journey Guide Project was founded by a mental health therapist, a physician, and a community developer. All of us, have had experiences in medical care where we wished something more could have been done.

During the most difficult time in my life, I started to experience extreme pain in my abdomen. I sought out primary care who referred me to urgent care who referred me to emergency services. I was in pain, but more than just physical pain, I was also experiencing emotional, social, & spiritual pain. Despite all of the hints I dropped, I yearned for any provider to ask me this simple question "What worries me right now?" No one did. It took months of pain and multiple wrong diagnoses to learn my body was experiencing inflammation from a chronic stress response.

What do you wish your doctor would have asked you?
