Ann Ricketts was Executive Director at Face to Face Health & Counseling from August 1987 to the end of December 2001. Among the many programs she shepherded during those years were Project Independence, for young people transitioning out of foster care; the Community Access Prenatal Project; a collaborative HIV/AIDS prevention project; Face to Face Academy, an alternative (now charter) school; SafeZone, a drop-in center for young people experiencing homelessness; and a federally-funded program that supported outreach with pregnant, substance-using, homeless young women. It was also during Ann's tenure that Face to Face moved to its current location on Arcade Street in St. Paul.
Ann's skill at negotiating the political, social, and funding landscape fostered Face to Face's mission of helping young people develop to their fullest potential, whatever challenges they may have faced.
Her story will soon be available at the Minnesota Historical Society library in the Face to Face collection.
On Friday youth had a conversation about reimagining youth justice with guest Freeway Ricky Ross. In November, young people from Face to Face traveled to Montgomery for a “Legacy Tour.” While visiting many museums and meeting with a restorative justice facilitator, they learned about the United States’ legacy and impact of slavery, lynching, racial segregation, and over-incarceration.
