"Often the key to working effectively with a family is expanding the therapeutic perspective to include the history of intergenerational trauma underlying the present-day issues, even if that’s not the family’s view of the origins of the presenting problem."
“Well, I was raised that way and I turned out okay!” .... at what cost is our question in the here and now?
This article presents strong evidence related to attachment theory, intergenerational trauma, and family systems. At FRrē, we are mindful and aware to remind our clients, those caregivers from their past did the best they could with what they knew. Today, we have the opportunity to explore and "reparent" the individual through love and self-compassion.

In Session 3 we learned about setting limits as an act of self-love. How we respond to different people based on different value systems and what this has meant to family systems.
Session 4 shares the topic of "how we want to be remembered" by our family members. Have any of you heard of a Family Care Plan or an Ethical Will? In working with family systems, how often are we challenged to discuss the values around death of family member? Do our clients sometimes have to parent their parents? As clinicians, we have to be skilled in ways to introduce these difficult topics within the family system and support their movements to change.

Session 2 - we were able to gain a better understanding of how we regulate our stress. Awareness of our "Red Zone" to incorporate our mantra to work through it.
Session 3- Setting Boundaries - At FRrē, as our clients explore their negative thinking and stress responses, we are supportive in helping them set effective and compassionate boundaries with their loved ones as an essential form of self-care.

"People who constantly complain can alienate those around them and harm their own mental health"
At FRrē, we are working diligently with individuals, couples, and families to recognize conflictual stress and support healthier coping strategies to regain balance between pessimism and optimism.

Session 1 discussed Change. By definition, we learned it is the experience of movement, AND, that the emotional transition of change is slower than the event. Once we can find the words to match those feelings of change, we are better able to adapt to the new reality. As clinicians, it is vital to support and model the process of change.
Session 2 - Regulating Stress - Stress can be the catch all of a lot of different emotions. What mantra/self-talk do you say to shift how you see things? What tips do you share with your clients?
At FRrē, we are committed to working with family systems to explore stress and model the process of change through language and adaptations to the new reality.

Part 1 - Why Change is Difficult - "We have an illusion that we are in control. We adapt through the process of change." At FRrē, we help uncover the systemic components of change for both individual and families and help support them through the process of change.

"Here’s the real problem: no matter how much we help our individual clients better understand themselves, recognize their own stumbling blocks, and use new skills to rebuild themselves from the inside out, we haven’t woven change into the fabric of their daily lives, the ones they share with people who aren’t their therapists.” At FRre, we take that systemic approach to recovery by engaging not only the client, but also their family members in the therapy process.

"Meaningful change began at about the six-month mark, and clients who stayed in therapy for a year did substantially better."
While focusing on symptom reduction, we also need to accentuate therapeutic value in long-term repair and resolution of our client's previous ruptured attachments.
The Tyranny of Time Consider what it takes to master any new and complex skill, say learning a language, playing a musical instrument, or becoming adept at carpentry. If someone promised to make you an expert in six months, you’d suspect they were selling snake oil. Meaningful personal development takes time and effo...

"The good news is that even the deepest suffering is temporary, even if it feels never-ending. Through his work, Gordon has found that self-care practices, as well as connecting with loved ones, can help take the lonely sting out of trauma and grief." "The challenge for family members is to explore how they relate to the individual suffering and how they have been impacted by the illness, not the individual. This exploration may then lead to solution-focused language, providing a sense of hope and empowerment, which may then lead to family healing." "People don't talk about these things," Elias says. Families often struggle silently, not realizing that their friends' or neighbors' kids are experiencing the same struggles. "So having an opportunity to create a conversation about this was really important," she says.

We are a group of behavioral health professionals dedicated to helping families who are stuck from a variety of reasons, including substance use disorder, mental illness, communication problems and relationship issues.
Using our innovative Dynamic Family Services®, we are redefining intervention and meeting families where they are, and are able to treat the family system as a whole. Years of experience have shown us that families have their own set of needs which must be addressed. The FRrē team devotes its energies to healing everyone affected by behavioral health issues, not just initially identified individual.
As part of Marc Hertz Consulting, FRrē is the evolution of almost a decade of work in the field of treatment and recovery. We meet a family at any stage of their healing journey with tools to stabilize, educate, provide insight and promote functional change. Our approach is unique in that we focus on dynamic family workshops. We work with families to help prepare for a treatment environment, alongside treatment providers/clinicians as well as individuals and families on an ongoing basis. We treat families going through anything that causes them to feel stuck - it does not have to be a substance use disorder or mental illness. We meet you where you are and advocate for the family system’s healing and growth.
