Some Pro Tips for managing anxiety about family gatherings over the holidays:

1. Happy little distractions: Bring a book, some headphones, or watch some funny cat videos to give yourself some intermittent distraction time while at your gathering

2. Pivot! : If you already know Aunt Lindy is going to pry about your most recent break up or Grandpa Joe is going to want to talk politics, go prepared with a pivot response to move the conversation in another direction.

3. Have an exit strategy: Practice telling everyone you’ve had a nice time but it’s time to be going prior to the gathering so you feel less pressure about staying and more prepared to scoot out the door on your terms

4. Fill your coping skills toolbox: Practice deep breathing, relaxation, and grounding exercises prior to your gathering

5. Self-Care, Self Care, Self Care- Did I mention self care? Be well rested, do some yoga, get your nails done, eat healthy… do what feels good for you to increase your overall sense of confidence and wellness before you go!
