I want to share the real reason I make my own skin care. Not just the what, but the why.
In my early 20s my body started speaking to me loudly. I developed painful skin rashes that began on my face and spread, sometimes turning into open sores and blisters around my eyes and under my nose. It hurt. Physically and emotionally. I tried everything. I spent hundreds of dollars switching products, working with dermatologists, natural doctors, holistic practitioners, and eventually even steroid creams because the pain felt unbearable. I was always treating the symptom, never the root.
Then I went to India.
I spent a full month immersed in an Ayurvedic lifestyle and diet and I did absolutely nothing to my face. No products. No treatments. And my skin completely healed 🥹
That moment changed everything.
I touched something true. Something deep. A knowing that my body wasn’t broken, it was communicating. So I dove in. I began studying Ayurveda and learning not only what we put into the body, but what we put onto the body. I started to understand sensitivity, how deeply our systems respond to chemicals, and why so many products labeled “clean” or “safe” were actually harming me.
Our skin is the largest organ of the body. It is not just a passive shield. It is porous and alive. What we put on our skin does not just sit on the surface. It can enter the body and interact with our internal systems. Studies show that in some cases up to around 64 percent of substances can be absorbed through the skin, and in sensitive areas like the face and underarms absorption can be even higher ✨
That is incredible, especially when we are using truly clean and nourishing ingredients.
And also sobering.
Because the majority of products on the market, even those labeled “clean” or “safe”, still contain ingredients that irritate the skin or disrupt the body. Labels can be misleading. Sensitivity is real.
Around that same time I found myself in Ghana, connected with small farms and communities stewarding organically grown shea butter, cocoa butter, and coconut oil in small batches. Pure. Intentional. Ancestral. And something in me said yes… I want to bring this back home.
So I began making soaps and body care. First for myself. Then for family and friends. In 2020 that became Wholesome Alchemy, originally as a body care company. Many of you have been with me since the very beginning and remember the bodycare line. For years those products served hundreds of people deeply.
Then life shifted.
The move to Florida, the heat, products melting before they arrived. What once felt devotional began to feel heavy. I closed the product line suddenly and honestly, I lost my fire for it for a while. Making product after product without that spark left me depleted.
But over the past few months something has returned. That inspiration. That call. And so many of you have been asking for support in this realm again.
So I am so excited to bring back something I have been called to offer… hands on soap and bodycare workshops.
