On March 18th 2015, the Walejko's, were hit with some devastating news...their daughter Megan, aka MIGHTY MEGAN, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The news was shocking, heartbreaking, unimaginable, but so very real. That same day she was taken into surgery at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL where doctors were able to remove the tumor. She spent the next few days in the hospital recovering while her family and friends tried to come to terms with what was happening. Doctors had determined that a 6 month chemo treatment was the way to go and so it began.
2015 was a trying time for them, but in true fashion, they rallied and all four of The Walejko clan conquered this treatment! You can just imagine the amount of bills rolling in with continued tests, checkups, insurance only covering only a portion of her medical bills. Not to mention The Walejko’s relocated to Florida only a few months prior to Mighty Megan receiving the diagnosis. Near the end of 2015 Megan received the best news that she had kicked Cancer’s but, this little Warrior Princess had prevailed!
2016 - Started off great for the Walejko’s, Megan continued to defy the odds and with every hold your breath checkup she continued to get the all clear, no Cancer. Unfortunately just before Christmas one of the MRI’s showed a shadow on a different area of Megan’s brain. After further analysis it was determined that it was in fact a reoccurrence of disease.
2017 - On January 3 after a long and trying process of getting second/third opinions for Megan's next course of action Her parents felt surgery was the best option. Thursday January 5th Megan went in for Brain Surgery for the second time in less than 2 years. They successfully removed the tumor, don’t underestimate the power of Mighty Megan!!!! However, unfortunately it appears to be a recurrence of Medulloblastoma. Jeannine, (Megan’s Mom) - “When she first had this tumor she was too young to receive radiation which really knocks this type of cancer out!! So we feel very fortunate to have that as our option this time around. She has sat up and talked and has even had a little to drink! That in itself after having brain surgery makes us proud to be her parents! This kid is the definition of MIGHTY!!!! We will not be sad and let this diagnosis define us!
