This one wasn’t surface level. We walked through what mitochondrial optimization actually looks like when you structure it intentionally. How to think about stacks. How to organize courses. How to support energy production without accidentally creating more oxidative stress than you solve.

If you care about performance, recovery, body composition, or just having more usable energy day to day, there’s a lot in this episode you can put to work immediately.

More peptides is not always better, especially with mitochondrial peptides.

If you stack too many tools that push electron transport and metabolic output at the same time, you can accidentally drive excess ROS instead of better energy production. That can shift you toward oxidative stress, which starts showing up as poorer recovery, stalled progress, inflammation, sleep disruption, lipid strain, and even reduced insulin sensitivity.

Mitochondrial signaling works best when it’s strategic, not when it’s cranked up and motherf*cked into system like a cellular jackhammer of drugs.

Testosterone should probably be the foundation of most performance stacks because it supports the physiology your body already expects. It maintains androgen signaling, preserves libido and mood, supports strength and recovery, and just as importantly it helps keep estrogen in a functional range instead of crashing it like many other compounds can. That estrogen support matters for joints, cardiovascular health, brain function, and long term progress in the gym. When the base hormone is stable, everything layered on top tends to behave more predictably.

Ipamorelin is a growth hormone releasing peptide, not a growth hormone releasing hormone. That distinction matters. GHRHs like sermorelin signal the pituitary through the natural GHRH receptor, while GHRPs like ipamorelin work primarily through the ghrelin receptor, giving a complementary pathway that still leads to a pulse of your own endogenous growth hormone rather than supplying growth hormone directly. ipamorelin has actually been shown in research settings to stimulate growth hormone release without meaningful increases in cortisol or prolactin, making it a desirable choice in its category of tools.

It is also important to understand that growth hormone releasing peptides and growth hormone releasing hormones are not the same thing as human growth hormone itself. HGH is the finished signal. Secretagogues are more like pressing the body’s own doorbell. Because of that, HGH produces a stronger downstream effect through IGF-1 and mTOR related pathways, while secretagogues tend to create smaller physiologic pulses that feel more supportive than forceful. That can be useful for someone who wants a gentler approach with less likelihood of issues like impaired glucose handling that can sometimes appear with stronger GH exposure.

There is also a longevity conversation here. Hugh mTOR signaling favors growth and repair but may not be ideal when it is elevated all the time. Pulsatile growth hormone release from secretagogues appears to behave more like the body’s natural rhythm and may preserve more balance with AMPK driven energy sensing pathways, which is one reason people sometimes use them as a middle ground between performance support and metabolic health.

Human growth hormone will always be the stronger signal. But just because a firearm is more effective than a knife does not make knives useless. Different tools serve different roles depending on the situation.

We’re learning more and more that sunlight and targeted photobiomodulation are not just about mood or vitamin D. They appear to interact directly with the mitochondria, which are the engines inside your cells that decide how efficiently you turn food into usable energy.

Certain wavelengths of light seem to improve how electrons move through the mitochondrial machinery and how smoothly the TCA cycle runs. Think of it like helping your cellular power plants burn fuel cleaner and faster instead of letting energy get lost as metabolic “friction.” When that system runs better, ATP production improves and your body becomes more capable of using stored substrate including body fat.

This is one of the reasons people often report better recovery, higher energy output, improved metabolic flexibility, and even easier fat loss when they consistently get smart sunlight exposure or use red and near infrared light devices. We are still piecing together the exact mechanisms, but the mitochondrial signal is getting harder to ignore.

goes on an absolute deep dive on the mechanisms involved and how to approach optimization from an angle you likely haven’t even considered yet on the DDTMethod Podcast🎙️ 🔗Link in Bio🔗

Telmisartan is usually thought of as just a blood pressure medication, but it quietly does a lot more under the hood. Beyond blocking the angiotensin receptor to reduce vascular tension and improve cardiovascular health, it also acts as a partial PPAR-gamma agonist, which means it can improve insulin sensitivity, support better nutrient handling, and shift metabolism in a direction that favors fat loss instead of storage. That same pathway is involved in mitochondrial signaling and inflammation control, which is why telmisartan is often discussed for brain health, metabolic flexibility, and even protection against visceral fat accumulation. Many people also notice improvements in vascular function, recovery capacity, and long term cardiometabolic risk markers when those pathways are working more efficiently.

On the DDTMethod Podcast (🎙️Link in Bio🔗) .ryan.white discusses this and a multitude of other performance enhancing tips and tricks to balance health with extreme development.
