Food is a big piece of the puzzle but it’s not the ONLY piece.

I’ve heard this statement from many people and when we start working together, here’s what we figured out…

🔺Their version of healthy eating wasn’t right for them.
🔺They had a ton of other stressors (any of the options shown above) driving their imbalances.
🔺They had an underlying gut infection that was behind their symptoms.

Once we are experiencing symptoms there often a deeper problem going on and using tools like functional testing are going to help you uncover those deeper root imbalances.

Some of your common, everyday habits could be contributing to your PMS, painful periods, gut issues, fatigue, weight struggles, chronic headaches and more!

🍽️Undereating - Not getting enough calories to meet your energy needs is a stress on the body and increases the chances of nutrient deficiencies

🍹Too much caffeine/alcohol - These substances put a burden on your liver and are prioritized over the detoxification of things like hormones. This can lead to excess and imbalance of hormones.

☕️Coffee on an empty stomach - This can affect cortisol levels and when cortisol is off this will influence cycling hormones

🥩🥦Lack of food diversity - The elimination of entire food groups can lead to a lack of nutrients critical to the production and proper use of hormones in the body.

🍩Carb overload - Eating meals or snacks that are predominantly made of carbs leads affects blood sugar. Dysregulated blood sugar directly affects hormones.

📱💡Late nights in front of artificial lighting or sitting indoors all day can skew our body’s natural circadian rhythms and the hormones that are tied to this important process.

🏃🏼‍♀️Over-exercising & hustling through our daily life can create a false sense of danger & stress on the body which can suppress our hormones. The body isn’t trying to make babies (or the hormones that go along with that process) if it senses a dangerous environment

😖Complaining/Overthinking/Perfectionism - Constant mental stressors, similar to above, lead to the body prioritizing hormones like cortisol for our “fight or flight” response instead of the hormones related to “rest & digest” mode such as digestive & reproductive hormones.

Starting to reduce and/or modify some of these behaviors is a great place to start to get your hormones working for you and not against you. 🩷

Summer is the BEST! ☀️👙🌊

And it’s so easy to get swept up in the fun, YOLO (does anyone say that anymore?), I’ll-sleep-when-I’m-dead kind of vibes.

And while that might feel like a great idea in the moment, this mindset all summer long will only add fuel to those frustrating hormone flames you’ve been battling!

In January 2015, I was a hot mess.

I had chronic constipation, bloating & gas, hypothyroidism, eczema, & weight I couldn’t lose AND a terrible diet, drinking way too much and could barely look at myself in the mirror. I felt hopeless.

That was when I truly decided I could NOT feel this way anymore and things had to change. I made my “No Plan B” commitment and decided to go all in for myself.

Hating how I felt everyday was not an option anymore. Continuing to make my body sick was not an option. Not living the life I expected of myself was NOT AN OPTION. I was done.

So I invested in myself. It started with a LOT of trial & error. Trends like Whole 30, paleo, food elimination, macro tracking, working out like crazy. And I started to see my body shape change BUT I still FELT terrible. This is when I realized that everything we’d been taught about “getting healthy” growing up was actually just chasing weight loss.

Turns out that the “eat less and move more” motto is actually NOT what we need to be doing to heal our guts and rebalance our hormones. Who knew!? 🙄

Eventually, once I knew I needed more, I went back to school to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner & Restorative Wellness Practitioner and THIS completely changed how I felt in my body and mindset.

I learned how our body works, whats goes wrong and how to fix it. All from leaders in the industry who had once been in my shoes!

My lifelong gut issues started to disappear, my periods became more regular & less painful and my energy was on an upward trend. I finally knew what it meant to actually FEEL GOOD and I was finally proud of the person I was.

**This was my turning point.**

My biggest take away from this experience:

**If you want the fast track to resolving your symptoms & feeling happier and healthier in your body, the quickest way is to learn from those who have been where you are.**

Not interested in making babies now, anymore or ever?

I support that! 🤍

But your hormones and your cycle are STILL incredible important for how you feel and function.

When we hear hormones, we usually think s*x hormones like estrogen and progesterone that affect our period and fertility.

But you actually have A LOT of different hormones in your body!

They are like little internal text messages sending info to all parts of the body telling it what to do and when.

Hormones affect nearly everything that’s going on in your body and, as a result, have an impact of way more than just your period and fertility.

Hormones play a role in your:
•metabolism & ability to produce energy
•sleep cycles
•digestion
•libido
•mood
•ability to handle stress
•weight management
•hunger & cravings
•body temperature

• overall zest for life!

So if you’re not currently (or ever) wanting to get pregnant and feel like hormones aren’t an important focus for you

BUT any of the above mentioned things aren’t feeling quite right…

it’s time to shift your understanding of hormones & start giving them a little more love and attention. ❤️‍🩹

Our genetics play a role, as does our past. But it doesn’t stop there UNLESS WE ALLOW IT TO.

Many people assume that their gut health is pretty good as long as they’re p**ping regularly.

And damn don’t I wish it were that simple.

My gut & hormone struggles didn’t appear out of thin air.

And, even though I know my diet wasn’t the ONLY thing that caused me to feel terrible in my body from a young age, it certainly played a huge role in my digestive struggles, hormone issues and everything else that came along after. 😖

But changing my eating habits did not change overnight.

Don’t expect yours to either.

Start with one small step…
🔹Adding more protein to breakfast
🔹Getting vegetables in with your lunch
🔹Cutting back on the nightly ice cream

Get consistent with each step.
And then build on the next level until you are…

🔹making meals made mostly of whole foods (very few processed foods)
🔹eating lots of protein & fiber at every meal
🔹never eating carbs alone
🔹including healthy fats in meals
🔹cut out mindless snacking between meals
