Have you ever realized a friendship was held together solely by your effort and energy? This is worth the read, if so.
There’s a specific kind of grief that doesn’t get talked about much. It doesn’t involve death or divorce or any of the losses we have cultural scripts for. It happens the day you stop texting first, stop organizing the catch-ups, stop being the one who reaches out — and realize that some of ...

Will you do something really cool or loving for someone you know or a stranger today?
So….this Epstein s**t has flipped a switch for me. Like are these people even actually human? Cruelty to children is unacceptable, as in its definitively wrong. It is an act against all of us.
I don’t know what to do right now but maybe combating pure f’ing evil with random acts of kindness is a start?

Was it tough for Truman Capote to stay true to himself growing up in rural Alabama in the '30's? How do we stay true to ourselves when we feel on our own? Maybe its just one conscious moment at a time that turns into a more consistent habit of not abandoning ourselves. Here's a short piece of when I met one of Capote's childhood detractors.
Wanna come sit with us? Come on over to my personal page so we can keep a connection by friending or following. it's over there, I'll be sharing latest nonfiction writing including mental health info, profiles on people, and overall curious stories. https://bit.ly/nhwriter

My dog is wild. Although older now, she still needs a long walk, off leash preferably, each day. This means finding woodsy trails, timed to anticipate not meeting anyone else on the trail to avoid the dog's unpredictable mood. Yesterday as I meandered and she sprinted the last few hundred feet towards the car, I stopped by a fir tree. He must have been old, wide enough I couldn't have wrapped my arms around him and touch my own finger tips. I didn't hug him but I did lean against him, then pulled my winter hat up over my ear so I could listen to the tree, feel the bark on my cheek. I slung one arm around him and breathed next to him. This morning I was reading about staying present and how that can feel like a free-fall at times and I realized yesterday was the first time in a while, I felt safe and grounded and present as I held onto another life force, much bigger than me, for just a few moments.

I found a bunch of old photos today. Little did I know when this one was taken, at 4 years old on my first day of school in Newfoundland, how important reading and and writing would become to me 🎉😊

Relationships are the modern day monk-hood. No need to meditate on a mountain-top to find inner peace.
If spending time with your fam triggers you, you’re normal, not broken. Whatever it takes to regulate yourself when feeling activated (somatic skills, mindfulness, practicing assertiveness and boundaries, walking away, taking prolonged time and space), do it even if it feels awkward at first.

I bet life has been loco for you. Me too. I make sense of my history by writing about it. Here is one of my stories….
I meet Angel by the metal payphone outside 7-11. I stroll outside with my breakfast, a giant-sized blueberry Slurpee. It is a sugared oasis from the cod I slice and fry and serve and, after my shift ends, the cod I steal from the food court.

What a gift - if you know yourself well, then you are true to yourself, and THEN you also have someone who loves you for exactly who you are, you’ve won the lottery.

My name is Jenny Cutler Lopez. As a therapist, I offer an integration of different therapeutic modalities to support you in whatever with which you may be struggling. I specialize in Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Core Energetics which is a body-based therapy, and traditional cognitive talk therapy.
If you are interested in possibly setting up a therapeutic relationship, once you reach out to me via Facebook, email, or a phone call, we can set up a time to speak on the phone for free. After that, we can meet at my office for 1.5 hours for an initial consultation. The fee for the initial consultation is $90. Then we will decide together when to schedule your next session. Each regular session is 1 hour and costs $60. Currently, I do not accept insurance.
I work with you as a team towards your goals whether that is building healthier relationships with yourself or others or working towards a reintegration of your mind, body, and spirit. If you would like to heal your underlying trauma, that is also an option for you. You are the expert of your own life so we will walk together towards whatever you would like to accept or change about your life.
So often we want to heal ourselves but we’re not sure how to do so. That knowledge is not gone, you already have all the answers. That knowledge has simply been forgotten or pushed aside. So much of what happens to us as we develop as children affects us psychologically and biologically. Your mind and body are one.
What I offer in a session depends on your needs and your wants. As a traditional cognitive therapist, I am training as a Master of Science Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. Currently in my second Masters internship, I work with people at Boston’s Justice Resource Institute (JRI) Center for Trauma and Embodiment. At JRI, I am using trauma-sensitive yoga to support people to start to feel their bodies again. We also use traditional talk therapy to identify and practice skills to help you in daily life or to begin to process past or current trauma which may be affecting you, your relationships, and your emotional and physical health.
I am also completing a 4 year program in Core Energetics. This style of therapy focuses on the places in your body in which you hold old energy and painful feelings. Human beings are incredibly clever. We figure out early on how to defend ourselves against painful emotions. Often our bodies physically form in ways to help keep these emotions at bay. What you discover as you begin to process these emotions is it if often much more painful long-term to keep defending yourself against these feelings rather than approaching parts of yourself with love and compassion. This work is powerful and transformational.
I am accepting new clients at my office in Lowell on Wednesdays and Thursdays in which you have the choice of using cognitive/talk therapy, body-based therapy, and trauma-sensitive yoga. Please reach out with any questions or to book a session.
