Patty Berne was a q***r, disabled Japanese-Haitian activist, artist, and co-founder of Sins Invalid, a disability justice performance collective that centers disabled people of color, q***r, and trans folks. She is a leading voice in the disability justice movement, helping to develop its foundational principles, which emphasize intersectionality, collective access, and the dismantling of ableism alongside racism, capitalism, and heteropatriarchy. Berne’s work blends performance art, political education, and community organizing to challenge dominant narratives about disability. Her leadership has shaped a more inclusive, radically visionary framework for disability rights and liberation.
