We’re excited to share that Mark Sims, MD, has been named Internal Medicine–Pediatrics Residency Program Director!

Dr. Sims has served as Associate Program Director since 2023 and is known for his thoughtful mentorship, bedside teaching, and commitment to helping trainees navigate residency and beyond. He is board-certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, and palliative care.

We’re grateful for his continued work with our learners and faculty and look forward to this next chapter.

Congratulations to Daniel Leung, MD, MSc, Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, on receiving the 2025 Bailey K. Ashford Medal from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).

This award honors early- and mid-career investigators for outstanding work in tropical medicine. Dr. Leung was recognized at the ASTMH Annual Meeting in Toronto for his contributions to global infectious diseases research and training.

We’re proud to see his work recognized on an international stage. 👏

Held at the HELIX Tower on October 20, the evening recognized our nurse practitioners and physician assistants for their hard work, leadership, and the difference they make across the department.

September is , and we’re proud to highlight Dr. Matthew Rondina and his work to better understand this life-threatening condition. 🩺

Matthew Rondina, MD, MS, holds an NIH K24 award supporting his work on platelet biology and inflammation in sepsis. His research bridges clinical insight with molecular discovery, and at the same time, mentoring the next generation of translational scientists.
