Did you know that you can reduce your stress levels simply by working out?

Exercise produce endorphin chemicals in the brain. These endorphins act as natural painkillers, improve the ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress.

Some activities that help your body produce endorphins are meditation, acupuncture, massage therapy, breathing deeply, and of course various forms of exercise.

When stress affects your brain, it attacks your entire body. Stress can leave to anxiety, depression and exhaustion.

If stress has been something that you find has been depleting you of your energy or ability to concentrate donโ€™t worry. There is hope!

Scientists have found that regular participation in aerobic exercise has been shown to decrease overall levels of tension, elevate and stabilize mood, improve sleep, and improve self-esteem. Even five minutes of aerobic exercise can stimulate anti-anxiety effects.

I have been soda free since April 27th, 2018. I know the date because I drank Diet Coke for more than 20 years.

I stopped drinking soda when I decided to take my health seriously. ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Here are a couple of things I have noticed since I stopped.

My digestive system was always slightly irritated and I constantly felt bloated. ๐Ÿ˜ง

I felt hungry often and craved sweets ๐Ÿก๐Ÿง๐Ÿจ๐Ÿฎ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿฅง

My body would crave a Diet Coke when under stress ๐Ÿ™‰

Now that I have stopped I have actually felt a ton better!

Over 65% of Americans indulge daily in a calorie-rich beverage. Beverages can really add anywhere from 0 to 500+ calories to your daily calorie.

And it is NOT just soda.

Arizona Iced Tea (240 calories)
Starbucks Frapp Bottle (180 calories)
Minute Maid Lemonade (180 calories)
Dunkin Donuts Strawberry Coolatta (230 calories)
Monster Energy (+200 calories)

๐ŸšจWhat about Diet Soda? ๐ŸšจDiet sodas have ZERO calories! ๐Ÿšจ

Although that is true, diet soda actually have other chemicals and ingredients in it that can negatively impact your body such as artificial sweeteners like aspartame, cyclamate, saccharine, acesulfame-k or sucralose.

It was those chemicals that made me feel bloated and sometimes nauseous. ๐Ÿคข

Originally Diet Sodas were introduced in the mid 1900โ€™s to market soda to people with diabetes then they changed their marketing towards those who were trying to lower their sugar intake or control their weight.

Those very ingredients maybe whatโ€™s prohibiting your journey.

Challenge -
I challenge you to note down how many beverages you drink per day and calculate the calories. This will give you a pretty good idea of how many calories you are consuming from beverages.

If you drink diet soda, I encourage you to note down how you feel 30-40 min after drinking the beverage or how you feel when you are relaxing. Do you feel bloated or craving sugar?

Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis discovered that the more iron you lift, the more fat your body will burn. ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

They found that lifting heavier weights will help you burn more calories and it also increases your sleeping metabolism by 8%. ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

So, by lifting heavier weights you are actually burning more calories during your exercise and then again when you are sleeping. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Sounds like a dream come true right? To be able to burn calories while you are sleeping. โญ๏ธ

Well you have to put in the hard work first by picking up those heavier weights. ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

As always, I recommend listening to your body. Do not over extend yourself to the point of injury.

There are several ways you can verify you are working your muscles hard enough. If you have a heart rate monitor, an Apple Watch, a Fitbit or any other device they will monitor your efforts and usually keep a daily record.

If you donโ€™t have a heart rate monitor you can simply use the talk test. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Follow the guidelines below to complete your talk test during your next workout routine

Choose your favorite song and try and see how many words you can complete. ๐Ÿ“ป

Low-Intensity Activity (warm-up)
You should be able to recite at least four to six words of your song. You should not feel any strain or begin to breath heavy. It will be like reciting the words in a casual conversation.๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Moderate Aerobic Activity
You should still be able to recite four to six words of your song. At this point you may begin to notice the effort to get those words out are a little more difficult then during your warm up.๐Ÿ„๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

High Intensity Activity
Here you will notice that you are definitely straining to get each word out. You may only get one to two words out and you are really pushing it. If you notice that you can still get up to four to six words - increase your efforts. You want it to be hard at this point. ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

No matter what level you are working at make sure you are listening to your body. There is no shame in catching your breath. Remember as you work out your body is demanding more oxygen!

Are you sleeping less than 6 hours per night?

This could be negatively impacting your health goals. A study showed that women who slept for 6 hours or less are 15% more likely to be overweight and weigh approximately 5.4 more pounds than women who sleep a minimum of 7 hours.

Sleep is a serious! When you sleep you experience a drop in your leptin which is a hormone that controls your appetite and you experience an increases your ghrelin which forces you to reach for more food. Because you are awake longer you are more likely to eat at least 220 or more calories per day.

I encourage you to go to bed just a little earlier each night to try and get your full 7-8 hours of sleep.

200 Squats????? WOW! Weโ€™re over 2000 total now for the month. Is that amazing or what? Iโ€™m feeling stronger and both Stephanie and I have seen improvement in our form and leg strength.
